Today Kingston just launched their first USB 3.0 flash drive called the Data Traveler Ultimate 3.0 and I’ve got it for review, specifically the 64gb version. This is, as I said, the first USB 3.0 flash drive from Kingston, so I was very curious as to how it performs and it does well. The DT Ultimate 3.0 exceeds the speeds that Kingston has listed in the specs, which is of course a very good thing and something that I’m glad to see. It’s Kingston though so I expected them to well honestly…. Read on to see the drive itself and see the test results for yourself.

USB 3.0 will be one of the fastest adapted new technologies of 2010. At this time it appears that everyone is on board, even though Intel is struggling to get their butt in gear. Intel aside, USB 3.0 is all over the place and thanks to NEC, even Intel motherboards come standard now with the latest spec, truly universal standard. With the first half of the catch 22 in place, we can now start to focus on USB 3.0 devices to take advantage of the new USB 3.0 spec.

SSDs have really come a long way over their short existence. From the meager 60MB/s reads to the 285MB/s read bandwidth found on the Vertex 2 you can see how the new Sandforce 1200 controller has improved SSD performance over SATA3.

In addition to our recent testing of the Silicon Power A80 Armor USB 3.0 portable hard drive Silicon Power also provided us with the TOUCH 851 USB 2.0 Flash Drive. A flash drive review might seem trivial considering the market is saturated with flash drives of all shapes, sizes, capacities, and abilities. However the Touch 851 is no ordinary flash drive.

iStarUSA is a company that I have become a big fan of over the years. They manufacture products that are higher than standard quality and pay attention to the people buying and using their products. iStartUSA has released a 4-Bay trayless RAID box and at first glance, it is sexy. The need for affordable and easy storage solutions is a quest that many of us have been on; let's see if the v7AGE420-ES can compete.

With several OEM wins and a growing retail product line, Hitachi has quietly been chipping away at Seagate and Western Digital over the last few years. Gone are the days of Hitachi making "me too" products and the company is now firmly in the same league as these long time front runners.

Synology released a few new NAS boxes yesterday and today I’ve got the DS211 for review. The DS211 features the new DSM3.0 operating system which makes life much easier when you’re trying to work with it. The new interface, for lack of a better description, is similar to Windows really, it allows you to open several things at once to multi-task. The DS211 is meant to be more of a budget minded NAS box that provides all of the features of higher cost boxes but just at a lower price really. So read on to learn more about it.

Until Marvell and SandForce released their first solid state drives Intel had a performance lead on all of their competitors. Unfortunately in our testing we found the 80GB Postville SSD lacked capacity and at the time the 160GB version cost substantially more than most consumers were willing to spend. Intel's ten channel controller was revolutionary, but forced Intel to release drives in odd capacity sizes.

Over the last couple months we took on the mission of finding the perfect HDD desktop docking station. The first two products we looked at were low cost units that were only limited by the amount of bandwidth our motherboard was able to provide. After that we moved on to the Thermaltake BlacX 5G, another USB 3.0 docking station that included some great accessories, an extra long cable that made moving our test system from under the desk less painful and was also able to deliver amazing performance. Now that we've seen the best USB 3.0 has to offer, a new docking station has taken over our test bench. The Thermaltake BlacX Duet forgoes USB 3.0 entirely and sticks to a tried and true eSATA / USB 2.0 combination, but that's not what the duo in Duet is about.

USB 2.0 just isn't enough speed these days. People expect more performance out of their pocketable storage devices. In an emerging market of USB 3.0 devices, Super Talent releases a flash drive that already stands out from the rest. Read on to find out why this drive is different from rest.
