OCZ arbeitet gerade daran 20 nm NAND-Flash-Technologie im großen Stil in das eigene Produktportfolio zu integrieren. Nachdem man mit der Vertex 3.20 bereits eine aufpolierte Variante der erfolgreichen Vertex 3 Serie präsentiert hat, folgt nun ein Refresh der Vertex 4: Vertex 450. Die neue Vertex 450 basiert auf 20 nm Chips von Micron bzw. IMFT (statt 25 nm) sowie einem Barefoot 3 M10 Controller, statt des Everest 2. Das Drive mit 256 Bit AES-Verschlüsselung hat sich auch rein äußerlich geändert, denn statt einem 9,5 mm hohen Kunststoffgehäuse kommt nun ein nur noch 7 mm schlankes Aluminiumchassis zum Einsatz und soll für eine bessere Wärmeleitung sorgen. Wir haben uns die OCZ Vertex 450 mit 256 GB für einen ausführlichen Praxistest eingeladen, um die Kombination au s Barefoot 3 M10 und 20 nm NAND-Speicher auf Herz und Nieren prüfen zu können. If you’ve been hanging around TSSDR or Technology X lately, you will have noticed that Apple shipped us a brand smacking new MBA, complete with a Samsung 256GB NGFF PCIe SSD that spits out performance as high as 825MB/s.
Since our initial MBA reports, we have had the opportunity to do what we do best and install Windows 7 on the MBA, followed by complete testing of the new Samsung PCIe SSD in a Windows environment.
To be frank, our PC benchmarking of this SSD resulted in some of the worst SSD performance we have seen to date and we don’t believe this to be the fault of the Samsung PCIe SSD. While testing in Windows 7, performance had even increased from 794MB/s to 824MB/s and, on the outset, this machine appears to the screaming thunder of storage performance.
