When it comes to all of these new devices such as tablets and Ultrabooks is that they do have a limited storage space. Whenever I am on the road or traveling I always have a portable hard drive with me. It gives me that extra storage space when I need it. Today we are taking a look at one of ADATA’s USB 3.0 portable hard drives. The DashDrive HV610 not only has a large capacity up to 1TB and super fast USB 3.0 transfer speeds it also has a cool cover that doubles as a holder for the USB 3.0 cable. Let’s see if this is the perfect portable hard drive to add to your travel bag.

The Satechi 10-Port USB 3.0 Hub measures in at 8.69" x 1.75" x 1.06" and is very light at just 4.125 ounces. The hub has three sets of three SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, and each set of ports can be independently controlled by a power switch on the left side hub. When the ports are switched on, they're lit up blue. You might notice that there are just nine USB 3.0 ports, but that is because there is a "charge only" USB 3.0 port at the end of the unit...

Our SSD analysis this week displays only the second consumer available SSD to hit the streets with eMLC 10,000 P/E rated memory. The KingSpec Challenger E3000s SSD is enterprise grade, LSI SandForce Driven, and relies on Intel eMLC memory. Unlike other SSDs tested to date, the E3000s was able to provide great low 4K random write performance of 112MB/s, surpassing that 100MB/s 4k random write plateau that has eluded so many others.

Back in August of 2012, I had the pleasure of reviewing the TS-569 Pro from Qnap. At the time that review was published Qnap was still working on the driver and software to enable the HDMI port. Since then Qnap has released many more NAS appliances all of which include HDMI functionality, however it never had a purpose until now.

Seagate has just launched their third generation hybrid drive dubbed the SSHD. So what is a Hybrid Drive? A Hybrid Drive is part SSD and part HDD. This configuration allows for SSD like performance and HDD capacity all in one convenient and affordable drive.

USB 3.0 has become the standard transfer interface for most consumers, so now that it is mainstream, more and more devices are hitting retail shelves with transfer speeds that can utilize the throughput of the interface.

All digital storage technologies are susceptible to data rot. Just ask the multimedia giant Pixar, who saw dozens of critical files disappear before their eyes, during production of the movie "Toy Story". Modern hard drives are remarkably reliable devices, but most have an average uncorrectable read error rate of 10^14. That means one read failure for every 12TB of data. The drive doesn't "crash"; it just gives you corrupted data every now and then. The only way around this is to continuously test the data, and scrub the errors as they occur. The storage industry deployed this technology in large data centers, and now Infortrend is making it available to consumers, with their new EonNAS series. The Sun-based OS in the EonNAS Pro 850x also has some other tricks up its sleeve, like data deduplication. Read on to find out more...

Hard drives with solid state cache storage, also known as hybrid drives, have been around for awhile. They are popular with laptop users but until now, those that have equipment designed to work only with 7mm high drives have been out of luck. Seagate's latest SSHD has been redesigned to a smaller, 7mm form factor as well as improved performance. See how it compares to the previous generation Momentus XT drive.

Samsung’s Series 840 SSDs offer great value for your money, but they use the relatively new TLC type of memory chips. These have a shorter lifespan than the more commonly used MLC chips, but how much shorter exactly? Samsung of course has full confidence in the longevity of their Series 840 SSDs, but there really is only one way to find out just how long buyers can expect a TLC-equipped drive to function: by testing the hell out of it.
