Today we're not looking at a product for aviation or gunships, but the build quality of the RunCore Pro V SATA III looks the part. The Pro V SATA III is controlled by a SandForce SF-2281 controller and uses asynchronous flash for data storage. In an era when other companies have moved to plastic housings, RunCore has kept an aluminum drive case for robust construction and added visual appeal in systems with windows or displayed drive bays.

The DT01ACA300 3TB drive from Toshiba features good performances and are in fact rebadged Hitachi HDS723030BLE640 units, a newer version compared to the drives we have tested in the past (as external enclosures). The DT01ACA300 are priced quite good and we would like to recommend them for home users which need more storage space.

Seagate recently released the FreeAgent GoFlex series of products that put a unique spin on portable hard drives and how we can use them. The GoFlex series is meant to be, as the name suggests, flexible and they are in that the drive itself can be used with many types of interfaces by just swapping the connector on it so you’re not limited to just using USB, you can choose from FireWire, eSATA or even USB 3.0. The quest for faster, more reliable and lower priced SSDs continues today with the review of the Corsair Performance 3 128GB. Last month we looked at the flagship 256GB model, but as you may know, performance changes when flash density changes. The flagship 256GB model impressed us with its 480MB/s read speed and 320MB/s write speed. Of course, the high speeds are just one aspect of SSDs and when it comes to this controller you need to look beyond the initial benchmarks to see the long lasting effects of quality engineering. The Corsair Performance 3 is a marathon runner designed to go the distance at higher speeds over the long haul. At this time most other SSD controllers are like sprinters who need to take a water break from time to time to rejuvenate.
I’ve got another hard drive for review today; it’s another Seagate model 7200.12 but it’s a slim style drive, it’s only one inch thick. The drive runs quiet and cool and it’s a decent performer, it would be great for an HTPC, or anywhere a smaller drive is needed.
No matter who you are, you should be more than aware of SanDisk, whether you have a camera or a mobile phone that takes a memory card, you would have most likely used a SanDisk memory card at some point.
