As time goes by more and more of you ask me about my opinion surrounding NAS units and more specifically which ones i consider to offer the best bang for your buck. Things however are never black and white when we are talking about technology so in the end it all comes down to what your needs are and how much you are willing to spend on it. So if you just want to buy a NAS Server to use just as a download station then even the entry-level Qnap TS-119P II (review soon) will be more than enough for that purpose so there's really no need for you to spend much. On the other hand if you want an NAS Server for multiple usages, for example use as a download station, media station, FTP server and webserver then you would do well to choose something more powerful like the Qnap TS-219P II. Performance however is only part of what makes a NAS server and so aside you deciding what use you need it for you also need to know how many drives bays you may require. Up until today we have mostly focused on 2 and 4 bay mid-end solutions but since many of you asked today we will be taking a look at the latest TurboNAS TS-469 Pro which as the name suggests is the latest high-end 4bay mid-end (SMB) solution from QNAP.

One of the things i always wanted to try (and it seems many of you wanted that as well judging by the many emails i received when i first mentioned this) was to test the same exact hard disk drive with both SATA II and SATA III connectivity to see if there were any real gains at all between both models. Of course as you all know it's not very easy to come across two versions (SATA II/III) of the same exact HDD so it was pure luck when i stumbled on the SATA II version of the latest Ultrastar 7K4000 4TB enterprise class HDD from Hitachi GST (HGST now) roughly one month ago. Our report today examines the newly released Corsair Force GS 240GB SSD. The Force GS enters the SSD market as Corsair’s entry model Toggle Mode NAND SSD candidate and it is one of the few to use SanDisk’s Toggle Mode NAND flash memory. By relying on Toggle Mode memory, Corsair is willing to bet that the Force GS Series will be able to provide both fast read and write high sequential performance as well as dynamite random write speed for an even better user experience.

A big chunk of the price difference undoubtedly goes to Microsoft.
On our table today we have the Silicon Power Velox V70 SATA 3 SSD where SP is another to combine the power of the LSI SandForce SF-2281 Flash Storage Processor (FSP) with Intel synchronous MLC memory. If NAND alone makes great partners, the V70 is in good hands as we have seen the same type and capacity in the OCZ Vertex 4, Kingston HyperX, ADATA XPG SX900, Comay Venus 3, as well as a few other top rated SSDs.
What's neat about the Sandisk Extreme 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive is that it's built with the kind of flash memory found in Solid State Drives . Sandisk won't reveal the exact type of NAND flash memory mind you, but rate the drive at speeds of 190MB/s read and 170MB/s write. That's quick. SanDisk's Extreme posted results of 196MB/s read and 173MB/s write in CrystalDiskMark (100MB, Sequential), the Patriot Supersonic flash drive managed just 114.2MB/s read and 59.33MB/s write - a virtual snails pace by comparison!
