Icydock's tool and rail free backplane module is called the MB973SP-B. It stores three 3.5" SATA hard drives in the space of two 5.25" drive bays. No hard drive rails or tools are needed, just open one of the three bays and slide a SATA hard drive in right side up, then close the door. On top of that, forced cooling is built in to prevent excessive heat build up, something that isn't always available (or plugged in) within the PC chassis.

To think of a NAS server as a business only product these days is ignorant. With everything digital now playing a larger role in our lives, most families can easily benefit from a full on NAS server. Connectivity is the key and you simply can't get this level of connectivity from a home server without a large amount of time consuming customization. Tine also plays a role in our digital lives; no one has enough of it and when something is in low supply a dollar figure can be assigned to it. As the supply dwindles the figure is increased. These days I would pay for time, even if charged by the minute. My personal NAS server saves me time and thus is an investment that can be recovered. I hope you are in a position to consider your time valuable as well.

One of the most frequent questions we receive with respect to SSD performance is whether the SSD can perform better than a RAID 0 configuration. We have never seen a single SATA 2.0 SSD perform better than any combinations of SSDs in RAID 0, at least not until we started testing the RunCore Pro V and ran a side by side comparison in Vantage HDD Suite. This review is going to examine one of the last solid state drives we received in 2010, the RunCore ProV 240GB SSD and before we started lets have everybody sit down and fasten our seatbelts shall we?You just might think we saved one of the best reviews until last because of our timing. The test results shown by the RunCore ProV 240GB SSD were such a shock that we elected to do leave the review for the New Year in order to give it the attention it deserves. Not only did it sail past all other single SSDs we have previously tested but, it also exceeded the Vantage HDD Suite results of two brand new Samsung 470 Series 256GB SSDs we had tested in RAID 0.

Are you frequently using your DSLR to take high resolution photos or recording videos? Lexar may have a solution with their Professional Series 133x 16GB SDHC Card; if you have deleted a photo by mistake from the card, there are some chances to recover it by using the Image Rescue 4 (included for free with this memory card!)

Companies are starting to come out of the wood work with USB 3.0 storage products, many of which were released at CES 2011. We've been testing USB 3.0 portable storage enclosures since November 2009 when we hosted the very first USB 3.0 product review online. Since then we've seen large and small devices, but the trend is leading to smaller and more compact storage that mates us to the 5G USB 3.0 protocol.

What we didn't know at the time (although assumed all along) was that OCZ was also working on consumer level Vertex 3 drives based on a brand new SandForce controller, the SF-2281. The next-generation SandForce controller in OCZ's Vertex 3 consumer grade drive operates across the SATA 6 Gbps interface and is reportedly good for up to 550MB/s read, 525MB/s write at up to 60K IOPS 4k Write. Today we will be taking a look at a beta engineering sample of the new consumer grade Vertex 3 SSD in a 240GB capacity.

Intel really kicked the SSD world in high gear when they released their X-25 series of drives last year. Their performance was the benchmark that all other drives were measured against for quite some time. Many have wondered what Intel would bring to the table in 2011. The time is finally here and Intel sent us over a pair of their new 510 Series 250GB drives to have a look at their performance. Take a look to see how they matched up with the new SandForce SATA 6Gbps drives.

For those that want speed and security from their hard drive, a solid state drive is your best option. The diskGenie 128gb is the mid ranged option out of iStorage's current range. They also sell a 30gb, 64gb, 240gb and 256gb; all of are priced differently at £140, £209, £689 and £919, respectively. iStorage claim that the diskGenie SSD is the world's most secure, smallest and affordable portable hard drive. With that in mind, let's see how the diskGenie does in the review...
