Now that we've had some time with the Vertex 3 Pro SSD carrying the new SandForce SF-2000 series controller, we can say that we're impressed with the performance. That comes with a bit of a caveat for those not on the Sandy Bridge P67 platform. Curious? Those interested in buying any next-gen SandForce drive might want to read what we found so you don't buy something you may regret.

When we recently reviewed the Corsair Neutron drive with the new Link_A_Media Devices LM87800 controller, we were duly impressed with the initial offering for this yet untested controller but we didn't get the chance to see it really shine until now. The Neutron GTX is a souped-up version which pushes the SATA 6Gbps interface to the limits. We take a look at performance and, now that both have been on the open market for a bit, also look to see how they are holding up on consumer machines.

The Icy Dock MB996SP-6SB 6 in 1 "ToughArmor" backplane cage offers solid aluminum construction that not only protects the hard drives but provides passive cooling. The MB996SP-6SB fits six 2.5” SSDs or hard drives into the space of a 5.25” bay in the hot swap capable drive bays. Active cooling is provided by a 40mm fan mounted to the back, the fan speed can be set to off, high, or low speed. Indicator lights are also present on the hard drive bays to show HDD power and activity. Power is provided by two 4-pin Molex connections or two 15-pin SATA power connectors with the included adapters. The 6 in 1 "ToughArmor" backplane has an individual SATA data connector for each drive bay, allowing the backplane to be used with any hard drive or RAID controller.

The SSD Review has recently taken the time to evaluate solid state drives from around the world with reviews on products from Memoright in Taiwan and Renice in China. We are going to finish off our tour with another peak at the offerings in Taiwan as we review the Mach Xtreme Technology MX-DS 40GB solid state drive. The unique similarity of all 3 SSDs is that their distribution in North America, at least up until our reviews, has been pretty much extinct since Memorights entry in 2007.
