Storage solutions are evolving rapidly, that much was clear at the WD conference in Turkey. Western Digital, along with hard disk manufacturer HGST, provided a glimpse into the future.

The Seagate Enterprise Performance V.6 offers users the sequential performance of 15K HDDs in a small form factor. Enhanced power consumption, standard encryption and other new features round out the latest enterprise HDD offering from Seagate.

In just over a week since its release, the MacBook Air has redefined storage speed and become the first to introduce the world to the reality of the new PCIe form factor. It appears that when it comes to money, both Apple and Samsung can shed their differences with the new MacBook Air pulling off SSD performance of 700MB/s in an ultra, even before Samsung themselves, and while utilizing Samsung’s own SSD.

I'm a firm believer that no matter how much storage space one has it's never enough at least not the way things are currently so i always like to keep quite a few TB's of empty space around just in case. Unfortunately although 5TB 3.5" desktop hard drives are just right around the corner the small size of 2.5" HDDs has kept things slightly less impressive and so it may be quite a few years before we finally see even 4TB portable drives. However in a way the very definition of portable means that you can't expect to have the same things on the go like you do at the comfort of your home or work so for most people even 500GB are obviously more than enough to handle their mobile storage needs. Today on our test bench we have one such portable hard drive and more specifically the latest Diamond D20 500GB USB 3.0 model by our friends over at Silicon Power.

The Desktop HDD.15 4TB is Seagate's official 4TB disk for use in desktop PCs. Unlike the 7200.14 disks, it runs at 5900 rpm, which means lower performance. The high data-density does make the Desktop HDD.15 4TB somewhat faster than most 5400/5900 rpm disks. Just like the 7200.14 disks, the Desktop HDD.15 contains 1TB platters, four of them in this case.

Recently Eye-Fi released a new model called the Mobi, which we have received for today’s review. This wireless SD card easily transmits photos and videos directly to one’s smartphone or tablet. It is aimed for the more casual photographers as it lacks some features in other Eye-Fi cards. Unlike the more expensive Eye-Fi Pro X2 it cannot send pictures to a computer or transmits RAW files.

The concept of the Seagate Central is a good one. The hard disk behemoth wanted to develop a user-friendly NAS device, and to keep things manageable for less experienced end-users it kept features to a minimum. If all you want is to share files and be able to access them online and via mobile apps, then you don't need the vast range of features from a QNAP or Synology NAS device.

We are really beginning to repeat ourselves in our SSD reviews lately. Time and again it's been clear in recent months that LSI needs to come up with a new generation SandForce controller. The SF-2281 was state-of-the-art when it came out, but now it's no longer capable of more than middle-of-the-road performance compared to other new SSDs. That's of course not a big deal if the SSD is priced accordingly, like Kingston did with its V300 series. And that's exactly the issue with Intel's 530 SSD. Intel will have to drop the price in order to make its new SSD series interesting in a competitive market.
