Today OCZ launched a new SSD series under the name Vector. OCZ is aiming at the high-end segment with these, more or less as a follow-up to the existing Vertex 4 series. The interesting part about the new SSD is the controller, because the Indilinx Barefoot 3 has been developed in-house by OCZ. Hardware.Info tested the Vector to find out whether it can hold its own against the other fast SSDs that recently came out.

Earlier this year we saw OCZ release the Vertex 4 and Agility 4 SSDs, a mix of Marvel and Indilinx inside they offered some impressive performance along with OCZs decent software suite and excellent support. Today sees the first product to market which combines the Indilinx and PLX teams knowhow. The Vector series of SSDs is, other than NAND flash, a 100% in house design and we will be putting it up against the best drives currently available from Samsung, Intel and OCZ themselves.

OCZ recaptures the performance lead and brings a new product line to market. Meet Vector, based on the Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller, Indilinx's first new controller since the OCZ acquisition.

To say the new OCZ Vector was a long time in the making would be an understatement as discussion over the development of this platform just might be one of the oldest SSD conversations to date.Today’s Vector release may mark the first major success story of OCZ’ purchase of both Indilinx and PLX, this story born through development of their Barefoot 3 silicon and firmware. Follow along as we take a very close look at the OCZ Vector ‘Indilinx Infused’ SSD.

Two years ago a Solid State Drive was a pricy piece of hardware set aside for the elite, wealthy enthusiast user. This year has seen prices drop significantly, and the technology has finally made it into the mainstream. As an all round performance drive, there has been little to match the OCZ Indilinx Everest 2 controller.

A number of next-generation SSDs are coming to TweakTown this week. OCZ, Intel and Samsung and others will follow after CES. Today Chris tests Samsung's low-cost 840 with TLC flash in the 500GB capacity size. Does TLC show the love or is this low-cost offering another low-budget blunder?
Storage
We were very impressed by the 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro when it came out late September. It was the fastest at the time, but OCZ has caught up already with the Vector SSD. The other capacities of the 840 Pro are equally outstanding in terms of performance, all at the top of their class.

Samsung's 840 returns for the second day in a row. This time Chris tests TLC flash paired with a tri-core MDX controller with the 250GB model. Will he love the low power or will the 240MB/s sequential write limit send him for a cold shower?

Only 25 or so days before we go dark for our much anticipated Christmas vacations (which shouldn't last more than 10 days in total) and so we decided to mainly focus on reviews requested by some of you during the last 2 months. Needless to say we are already testing quite a few gaming peripherals for the past 2 weeks so there isn't really much time for anything else that requires time and effort to test, however since the primary concern of most of you have been 2.5" portable hard disk drives (much easier/faster to test) we gathered quite a few of the latest USB 3.0 models here to see which delivers the most bang for your buck. The first of those portable USB 3.0 HDDs is no other than the latest Touro Mobile Pro 500GB by HGST.
