We have the ICYRaid MB662U3-2S on our desk today and will be looking at its design, features and performance to see what ICY DOCK can do with a high end enclosure.

Kingston brings SF-2281 to the mainstream with 19nm Toggle NAND and new 5.0.5 firmware. We look at this new mainstream role for LSI SandForce SATA 6G controllers and how it changes the market from now till NGFF.

The RevoDrive is a bit different than other solid state drives, in that, it does not attach through a typical SATA II port, but rather a PCI Express slot on the motherboard of the computer itself. It is a simple installation and the warranty on the card is 3 years limited with performance results for the tested drive advertised at an amazing 540MB/s read and 480MB/s write performance with a 4k aligned IOPS of 75,000 IOPS. The drive is available from 50GB to 480GB sizes with typical pricing ranging from as little as $199 for the 50GB version with performance of 540MB/s read and 450MB/s write for capacities less than 120GB.

USB Flash Drives have been around for almost 13 years now and according to some people they were the stepping stone on which solid state drives were eventually developed for consumer use (although SSDs in general have been around for much longer). Naturally however since solid state drives either use SATA or PCIex connectivity they are quite faster than even the fastest USB flash drive and although in "theory" the specifications of USB 3.0 come really close in the end we may never see USB 3.0 based flash drives with speeds exceeding 350-400MB/s. Still it's very rare to come across a USB 3.0 based flash drive with speeds exceeding the 200MB/s mark and to my knowledge there are just a handful of drive models currently in the market that can achieve that number mostly manufactured from Kingston and Corsair. Well it seems that Mach Xtreme (MX-Technology) is also ready to jump on the same wagon with their latest MX-FX USB 3.0 flash drives.

For a first entry, the Shuttle OmniNAS KD20 certainly doesn't disappoint. It has a solid chassis, a USB 3.0 port on the front and quality trays for the hard disks. The firmware has all the features you expect on a NAS, and the lay-out is well-organised. Shuttle also has practical apps for remote access to your folders.

Seagate is certainly one of the titans when it comes to PC storage options - both consumer and enterprise. It makes sense for them to use their considerable infrastructure to make their mark on the SSD market segment - something they've been slow to do. We found performance on our Seagate 600 240GB drive to be very good with the Link_A_Media Devices (LAMD) LM87800 controller handling all the heavy lifting. The specifications of 550MB/s reads and 450MB/s writes were hit without a problem and even on incompressible data, speeds were solid. IOPS performance was very good as well, exceeding the 80,000/70,000 reads/writes by a bit to place in the upper portion of the comparison list...

The official category for the QNAP TS-419P II Turbo NAS is "Network Attached Storage", but in today's environment, think of it as "Connected Storage". By consolidating and providing direct access to your data via cloud services or on your mobile device, it's more about connectedness than the ability to serve up files over 1000BASE-T in your home or workspace. The TS-419P II is the next logical step up from a two-bay device and allows you to implement RAID 5 or 6; a four-bay device is really the bare minimum for a high availability NAS appliance. It's equipped with a faster Marvell CPU running at 2.0 GHz, a 25% increase in clock speed from previous models. Benchmark Reviews has tested several NAS units recently, let's take at look at how this latest unit compares.
