Today for review I’ve got two USB 3.0 34mm Expresscards, each feature two USB 3.0 ports and they’re basically the same really. One is from Unitek and the other is a no-name or generic one. Is there really a difference between them?

The importance of Toshiba in the flash industry cannot be overstated. Toshiba is not only one of the world’s largest flash suppliers, but also, they are often recognized as the prime choice when SSD manufacturers are making quality SSDs. Some SSD manufacturers refuse to use anything nut Toshiba NAND flash memory in their SSDs. So where has Toshiba been as a SSD manufacturer? It is no secret that Toshiba was late from the gate in the SSD race right off, but really, why has Toshiba taken so long to mature with respect to both client and consumer SSDs?

Everybody needs a lot more digital storage these days, even your grandma. Most people have tons of music, videos, photos, and documents all in digital format. An average person's digital collection of media would easily fill several rooms if they were in a "physical" format. It's always handy to have several portable hard drives on you; some people use it for backup, others for transferring files between places, and some use them just because they've run out of room elsewhere. I usually find myself in the last scenario, even though I have multiple terabytes on a home network.

Today we are taking a look at the Max 5G from Thermaltake. The Max 5G is taking a different approach to the external drive enclosures. Where most others seem to aim at making the enclosure as compact as possible, the Max 5G is adding additional cooling in for good measure. This should have an impact on long-term drive health if warm hard drives concern you. The Max 5G comes with dual 80mm fans and blue LED highlights in addition to its USB 3.0 connectivity.

External storage systems have really hit it off in recent years with people wanting to transfer more and more data from one computer to another. The enclosures have evolved to be very easy to use and able to support IDE and SATA hard drives utilising both USB and eSATA connections. However, with USB performance lagging behind, more and more users are turning to eSATA for its much higher read/write speeds. Let’s take a look at the Eagle Tech Consus T-Series to see what kind of performance it can offer…
