Compact discs, when compared to USB flash drives, are really not as compact as once thought, nor are 4GBs considered a ‘huge’ size anymore. With high resolution pictures taking up 20MB per shot and high definition videos eating up gigabytes worth of space every minute, photographers having to lug notebooks or external storage devices are most likely breathing a collective sigh of relief with the release of Patriot’s Supersonic Magnum 256GB USB 3.0 thumb drive.

Earlier today we explained what SATA Express is and now we have the opportunity to show off the first 2.5-inch SATA Express drive that we have had the chance to take a look at personally. Our friends at ASUS gave Legit Reviews a chance to see and benchmark the ASUS Hyper Express SATA Express External Enclosure. ASUS will be coming out with several versions of the ASUS Hyper Express. Read on to find out more about the ASUS Hyper Express!

In this article, Benchmark Reviews sets out to detail the performance differences between SSD products attached to the JMicron JMB322 host-based controller and the Intel ICH10R, but instead discovered a larger problem. While read and write performance can sway unpredictably between SATA controllers, the most disturbing subject is the inconsistency between test tools. One version of ATTO Disk Benchmark can record result different from another, while HD-Tach gives different results on the same version and driver. Please read more to learn of the pitfalls and perils when testing SSD's between platforms.

Today we are going to be looking at the Buffalo 128GB Microstation SSD drive which is based around a JMicron JMF612 controller, has a 64MB DRAM cache and offers speeds up to 240 MB/s read and 155 MB/s write.

Today we will look at the SSDNow V+ 128 GB solid-state drive model which is advertised to run at 230MB/s read and 180MB/s write speeds. These are some pretty impressive numbers for most any type of drive medium. According to Kingston "the new SSDNow V+ is an ideal solid-state drive for high-level consumers and in corporate environments where efficiency and performance are important as more system resources are in use. The second generation of the V+ series offers four capacities ranging from 64 GB to 512 GB. Additional features includes faster performance, a switch from the Intel controller to a Toshiba one and Windows 7 TRIM support.

The Crucial v4s are pretty much the cheapest SSDs you can currently find, so it's not fair to expect the best performance. That said, the v4s are a lot slower than all other current SSDs, even the already slow OCZ Petrols. You get what you pay for, and in this case it's not a whole lot. It's almost an inevitable result of the price war that's been going on in the world of SSDs. There are better options out there for affordable SSDs.

Kingwin has been effective in creating a product that allows access to data in a quick, easy, and inexpensive way. The USI-2535U3 USB 3.0 to SATA adapter is versatile enough to use with any SATA drive and small enough to carry anywhere. The USB 3.0 interface ensures fast file transfers, and backward compatibility with USB 2.0 make this a truly adaptable tool for computer users of all skill levels.

The OCZ Vertex is leaps and bounds better than the original JMicron
Solid State Drive. If you're an owner of the first generation drives and
noticing your performance and system is starting to fall behind, it is time for an upgrade. I was originally pleased with the JMicron MLC SSD but after a few short weeks of use my notebook started to hang for a few seconds at a time. As OCZ clearly indicated on their packaging, my OCZ Vertex gives me faster access times resulting in a far more stable machine. The 64MB cache has made a world of difference and OCZ didn't sacrifice too much bandwidth for the improved access time. We're still well into the 140MB/s Write and 200MB/s Read. With Win7 just around the corner and the OCZ Vertex already claiming to support the TRIM command, OCZ's Vertex has a very bright future ahead of itself.

ADATA knows that SandForce-driven SSDs are a win-win combination of performance and speed. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the ADATA S511 solid state drive. Based on the popular new SandForce SF-2281 SATA 6GB/s controller and fast IMFT-branded NAND flash components, ADATA claims the AS511S3 is capable of 550 MB/s read and 510 MB/s write speed with 4K random write speeds as high as 60,000 IOPS in real world testing. We test these claims, and compare performance to competing storage solid-state solutions in this review to find out which SSD is best.
