With the tower format cooler generally accepted as the best current heatsink design architecture, the variations are often with the base, heatpipes and fan configurations. Previous Cooler Master designs such as the V8 and V10 are pretty extreme with additional heatsinks sprouting from all parts making them into monster coolers.

Almost exactly one year ago, we've reviewed the QNAP TS-409 network attached storage system. The QNAP TS-409 offered brilliant reliability and stability in our long term tests -- of which lasted an uptime of 221 days, 1 hour, and 54 minutes until connections to Disk 2 overloaded, partially due to a user error! The system also provided excellent performance according to our benchmarks, as well as efficient power usage for a lower power bill, since it's going to be running 24/7. But it wasn't by all means perfect. Hardware wise, it suffered from a relatively slow Marvell 88F5281 500MHz CPU, and only 256MB of DDR2 memory.

The old saying is that good things come in small packages, and that's definitely the case with the Thecus N0204 Mini NAS. It's no larger than a portable hard drive but provides a lot more than just storage. I don't know of any other NAS box that is this portable and manages to pack an FTP server, print server, media server, and so many other features into a tiny unit that can fit in your jacket pocket.

The BlacX Duet we have on hand today is the third in the BlacX series of hard drive docking stations from Thermaltake. We first saw the BlacX at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show and got our hands on a review sample a month later. We came away from that review very impressed with the concept and implementation, although USB-only transfer left us wanting more. The second coming of the BlacX, dubbed the SE version, featured a 4-port USB hub but still failed to deliver eSATA transfer capability. With the latest release of the BlacX, Thermaltake has done away with the 4-port USB hub, added a second slot that allows for two drives to be mounted simultaneously and finally added eSATA compatibility. This is looking more like the BlacX we hoped for nearly two years ago.

The product I’ve got today is called the i-Tech SIMDrive and it looks like a small USB flash but it has a slot on it for your sim card to be inserted into. On the drive itself is software to allows you to access, edit, backup and even export your contacts from the sim card. You do all this from your computer so it makes the whole process much easier. It’s inexpensive, and in my opinion well worth it to be able to easily access and backup your contacts.

Seagate recently announced the release of the Barracuda XT in a 2TB flavor and what is remarkable is that it comes in the new SATA III pushing the standard to 6GB/s. The XT promises to bring with it all new records in speed and storage capability. We think the Barracuda XT couldn't get much better unless they wrapped it in bacon.

We all know that two is better than one, we have dual core CPUs, dual GPU video cards, and if you really want to get the most out of your storage, a set of SSDs in RAID will boost your performance noticeably. We tested 6 different RAID stripe sizes and 3 different RAID configs in 4 different storage benchmarks, some synthetic, others real world operations. More than 1200 benchmarks results summed up in a few charts.

For this review I will be looking at a product from a manufacturer that until fairly recently, a couple of months or so ago, I had never come across before. The company is In Win and the product of theirs I am looking at for this review is a laptop hard drive enclosure, but with a nice added security feature of RFID.

Most consumer electronic products that use flash memory have moved to SD/SDHC media and with the convergences comes products that can be smaller and portable. Kingston produced an update to the original MobileLite brand of portable card reader known as the MobileLite G2 and this is the focus of the review.
