Plextor is not a name that you would have immediately associate with SSD manufacture – they’re probably best known to old timers as a leading manufacturer of CD/DVD drives – but they’ve been in the business a while. Unlike Intel or Samsung who have made their mark with their own brand controllers and software, Plextor has opted to go for a third party Marvell controller. These controllers are used to great effect in the popular Crucial M4, but require some special firmware to really unlock their potential.

SanDisk recently announced SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 flash drive series, which is the fastest ever offered by the company. The SanDisk 64GB Extreme USB 3.0 Flash drive can transfer, store and share large files with speeds of up to 190MB/s read and 170MB/s write. It also doesn't break the bank as it can be bought online for under $85 shipped. Is this your next USB 3.0 Flash drive?

The countless benefits of owning an NAS server have been highlighted in our reviews time and again in the past but the two things that really make such devices popular are the small size and low power consumptions. Now although I’ve been testing NAS devices/servers for quite a few years now I’ve always focused on dual and quad bay models mainly because these are the most popular amongst high end users, enthusiasts and even professionals. However in doing so i have in a way neglected the entry level user segment of the market that are after low-cost single bay NAS units to use as download and media servers. Because of that today’s review is about the latest single bay NAS unit by QNAP, the TurboNAS TS-119P II.

A ‘measuring stick’ seems to have evolved in the SSD arena where performance can be separated by the type of data being tested. Some SSDs excel in transferring compressible data while others in incompressible data, such as we might see in music, video and photography. Our report today will evaluate the new OCZ Agility 4 256GB SSD which houses the Indilinx ‘Everest 2′ platform, a platform that has been a true leader in incompressible data testing as seen in our Vertex 4 review this past April.

With the release of its Red hard drives, WD hasn't only managed to scratch another color off its list, but it also gives NAS users a drive designed just for them. Beyond its NAS-specific features, Red proves to be one of the fastest drives on the market, and with its 3-year warranty, it's without a doubt a very compelling option for NAS users.

For today’s review we will check out Synology’s top of the line two bay network attached storage solution – the DiskStation DS712+. This machine features dual Gigabit LAN which provides read speeds of up to180.91MB/sec and writes at 105.59MB/sec when using Link Aggregation under RAID 0 configuration. This box uses a low power Intel Atom processor which makes the machine both powerful in its class and energy efficient; you can easily replace a PC sized server with a Synology NAS Server running on your home or work network.
