If you were to ask me what my favorite thing to do at TweakTown is, I'd quickly say traveling the world and seeing different cultures. Then I would quickly tell you that a close second is pushing the boundaries of performance to new levels. Today we are going to not just push, but actually shove performance into a new dimension formally reserved for those spending obscene sums of money on storage products.

If we take a quick step into the eTeknix time machine and rewind about a year ago, we can see that Solid State Drives were still very expensive and that was down to one reason really, and it wasn't the fact of how much they cost to make, but more down to the lack of competition out there. We saw the likes of OCZ and a very select few companies similar to them offering expensive SSDs because they could.

Have you ever been to a kid's baseball game where the game was delayed? This usually happens during summer vacation; two of the kids are on vacation and another one is late. Little Jimmy's mom called and said Jimmy would be there 15 minutes late. All of the kids are on the field tossing the ball around, except Jimmy, and the crowd of parents are anxiously wondering what the hell the holdup is because they want to get home to cook dinner and finish some work. Then all of a sudden Little Jimmy comes running on the field and the ref yells "PLAY BALL!"

One of the major manufacturers offering a Sandforce based SSD is Patriot with their Wildfire range of drives and today we have one attached to our system, putting it head to head with Intel's 510 model and the recently released Samsung 830 Series.

In recent months we have seen a flood of Solid State Drives released, powered by the new class leading 2281 Sandforce controller. Today we are analysing the latest drive from Patriot – the Wildfire 120GB. This specific drive is using 32nm Toshiba MLC NAND, the same memory used in the class leading MAX IOPS Vertex 3, which we reviewed earlier this year.

Patriot Memory has been a long-time provider of system components for performance enthusiasts. It was a natural evolution for them to focus their efforts on SSDs to compliment the demand for high-end RAM. They were sucessful with their Inferno series, and now that SandForce has released their second-generation controller they're back with the Patriot Wildfire. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests performance on the 120GB Patriot Wildfire Solid State Drive, model PW120GS25SSDR, specified for up to 555 MB/s read and 520 MB/s write performance with 4K random write speeds as high as 80,000 IOPS in real world testing.

Stronger, bigger and faster that is just what we are all seeking for when we are looking for a flash memory stick. And that is exactly what Patriot had in mind as well when they released the Xporter Magnum 64GB memory drive. Their mission is simple, and this is to be the vendor of choice for the computer and consumer electronic industries with a commitment to service and quality. Which is exactly what they have been doing over the last few years, building up a strong service with high quality products and as such becoming a choice for many out there looking for memory related hardware. With a wide variety to choose from and capacities reaching 64GB, you can literally take everything with you.

It’s been a while since I’ve reviewed any USB drives here on TestFreaks so today I’ve got one that Patriot has sent over. The drive is the Xporter Rage 32gb version or XT as it’s called. The drive features a quad channel configuration of four nand chips that work together simultaneously to provide enhanced performance overall.

With a read and write speed of 28MB/s and 24MB/s the Xporter Rage XT 32GB lived up to its claimed speeds using Patriot’s Quad Channel technology. wrapped in a small package the Rage XT is ideal for travel and with its read and write speeds is sure to save you time moving your files around

The Patriot Extreme Performance Xporter XT Rage is a USB Flash Drive with both performance and functionality. Featuring an innovative Quad Channel configuration, data is intelligently managed and transferred simultaneously to 4 NAND chips resulting in vastly enhanced performance, particularly write speeds: Rage improves on traditional USB 2.0 Flash Drives to offer up to 27MB/s read and 25MB/s write transfer speeds. Read on to see how it performs!
