The new Blaze B20 USB 3.0 Flash Drive from Silicon Power comes with a fashionable design and a slide-in mechanism so we won’t need additional protective caps during transport. The drive comes with decent write speeds and very good reads, which recommends it for storing small to medium-sized files.

Up for review today I’ve got a little gadget that I think can come in quite handy especially if you travel. The product is called the HooToo TripMate HT-TM01 and it does many things that I think you might be interested in knowing all about. The HT-TM01 is a router, it’s a bridge, it’s an access point, it’s a NAS and it’s a backup battery for your devices. This little all-in-one will work as a NAS on Android or iOS via an app you can download, or you can access it right from your computer to stream or transfer files back and forth to a USB flash or USB hard drive. To use it as a router you just need to plug in an Ethernet cable and you’re basically all set with a wireless network up and running in a few minutes. The battery inside is 5200mAh in capacity so, depending on the device you’re charging, you can get plenty of extra talk or play time from it. So read on to learn more about what I think is a handy little gadget…

As most PC enthusiasts know, the right choice of storage media - particularly for the operating system - can make or break the entire build. Earlier this year we reviewed the Vector and Vertex 3.20, two of OCZ's latest SSD offerings and judging by the Kingston data sheet their HyperX 3K looks to bring an equal challenge to the table. Touting 555MB/s sequential reads and 510MB/s writes, the HyperX 3K 240GB SSD offers impressive performance courtesy of the Sandforce 2 controller... all with a three year warranty.

Over recent years, mSATA drives have typically been a component that has not been on the forefront of the consumer market, seen only really by OEM manufacturers or by those who opened up their systems. With the market shifting towards smaller and smaller systems, and advances in technology allowing for denser storage and computing power as a whole, we are now seeing mSATA drive appear on the consumer market in greater numbers and more importantly, bigger capacities.
This is not the first time I’ve looked at an mSATA drive, a few months back I had a look at one of ADATA’s smaller capacity drives, the SP300 24GB - aimed more for SSD caching and small OS footprints that require little read and write speeds such as POS systems.
With speeds and capacities now at a level that most users would deem acceptable for day to day use, and the number of systems and motherboards that support them such as laptops and ASUS’ ROG motherboards growing and more importantly the introductions of Intel’s Next Unit of Computing (NUC), seeing what is out there in the mSATA market is something very worth while.

On the one hand QNAP has made a very versatile NAS device that has tons of software features and lots of connectors. The QTS 4.0 firmware is very comprehensive. The chassis is solid, and the build quality is good. On the other, the hardware inside isn't on the same level.

Today’s review is of MyDigitalSSD’s SuperCache 2 mSATA 128GB SSD, and the FNet HybriDisk caching software. A license key for the HybriDisk software is included with the purchase of the SuperCache 2. How does a caching SSD work? It works in conjunction with a hard drive disk (HDD) to create what the operating system sees as a single, combined storage partition. A caching SSD utilizes specialized software to determine what programs, data, and/or files that the user accesses most frequently. This “hot” data will be held in a dedicated “caching” partition on the SSD for much quicker access when called for. Less frequently requested data will still reside on the HDD, until such time as it becomes frequently accessed enough to be moved to the SSD cache. What is stored on the SSD cache is dynamic, and changes over time based on actual usage.
