In a similar fashion to my last review of a Thecus NAS, it has been a little while since I've looked at a QNAP system, but this is not to say that stocks have run dry of NAS samples and now we're back in full swing now with another system from one of the major players in the NAS market.

The new DS213+ 2-bay NAS from Synology is sporting a dual core processor at 1.067GHz with Floating Point, 512MB of DDR3 and a very low power consumption in both IDLE and Full Load. The chassis has a solid design like the more expensive 4-bay designs and operates with the latest DSM 4.2 version.

If you've been waiting for the time when a near 1TB SSD has a reasonable cost per GB price tag, Crucial may have something for you. Their new M500 series has drives available from 120GB to 960GB and feature the latest iteration of the Marvell controller and some updated architecture to match. Have a read to see how well it compares to the latest drives from other makers.

A few years back when we didn't have 3/4TB drives and we were all struggling to make due with 320/500GB ones there was one thing pretty much every single person i know in the IT industry wanted and that was one or more hot-swap 5.25" storage adapters for 3.5" drives. That way everyone could insert a 3.5" drive, take a backup (or share files with friends), remove it and insert another one in just a few seconds (back then docking stations didn't really exist). Now things have changed and so to most people even a single 4TB drive is way too much, however we are not most people and the same can be said about professionals and enthusiasts around the globe. Unfortunately feature-rich and high quality 5.25" hot-swap storage adapters that can hold over three 3.5" drives are extremely hard to come by in the market today and if you are to sacrifice most if not all of your 5.25" drive bays you want to make the most out of it. iStarUSA designs and manufactures industrial grade products for the most demanding of users and lucky for us they also make some of the best 5.25" drive cages for both SATA II/III and SAS I/II drives like the BPN-DE340SS.

Recently Corsair made some changes to their popular Neutron Series products. Both the base model and GTX have new firmware, new flash and new price points. The Neutron 256GB is now one of the best value SSD's on the market and they are selling like crazy.

The rapid drop in 25nm flash availability and slow RAMp up of 20nm production puts OCZ in a tough position. Vector availability is about to get scarce and Vertex 3.20 can't be profitable at less than $1 per GB. OCZ needs a higher profit product with the flash available today and it has to be faster than SandForce to sell, enter the new OCZ Vertex 450.

Recently, OCZ began simplifying its SSD product line quite significantly in order to make the decision-making process easier for consumers. This was also encouraged by the fact that even budget models today offer some great performance. OCZ’s Vertex 3.20 targets that market, replacing the Agility and Vertex 3. Is it a worthy successor?
