The Crucial M500 doesn't set any new benchmark records, but that's also not what Crucial set out to do. Nevertheless, the Crucial M500 480 GB is one of the fastest SSDs in this segment. A few years back when we didn't have 3/4TB drives and we were all struggling to make due with 320/500GB ones there was one thing pretty much every single person i know in the IT industry wanted and that was one or more hot-swap 5.25" storage adapters for 3.5" drives. Recently Corsair made some changes to their popular Neutron Series products. Both the base model and GTX have new firmware, new flash and new price points. The Neutron 256GB is now one of the best value SSD's on the market and they are selling like crazy.
The rapid drop in 25nm flash availability and slow RAMp up of 20nm production puts OCZ in a tough position. Vector availability is about to get scarce and Vertex 3.20 can't be profitable at less than $1 per GB. OCZ needs a higher profit product with the flash available today and it has to be faster than SandForce to sell, enter the new OCZ Vertex 450.
