As time goes by more and more of you ask me about my opinion surrounding NAS units and more specifically which ones i consider to offer the best bang for your buck. Things however are never black and white when we are talking about technology so in the end it all comes down to what your needs are and how much you are willing to spend on it. So if you just want to buy a NAS Server to use just as a download station then even the entry-level Qnap TS-119P II (review soon) will be more than enough for that purpose so there's really no need for you to spend much. On the other hand if you want an NAS Server for multiple usages, for example use as a download station, media station, FTP server and webserver then you would do well to choose something more powerful like the Qnap TS-219P II. Performance however is only part of what makes a NAS server and so aside you deciding what use you need it for you also need to know how many drives bays you may require. Up until today we have mostly focused on 2 and 4 bay mid-end solutions but since many of you asked today we will be taking a look at the latest TurboNAS TS-469 Pro which as the name suggests is the latest high-end 4bay mid-end (SMB) solution from QNAP.

If you are looking for a quick and easy way to upgrade your existing system this is most certainly one of the best ways to do it. The number of devices compatible with Thunderbolt is growing. We recently reviewed a number ofmotherboards with Thunderbolt, and now we are putting the Lacie 2big Thunderbolt to the test. It's an external hard drive with two 3.5-inch hard disks, a direct competitor to the WD MyBook Thunderbolt Duo.
The SandForce SF-2281 controller has been powering many of the solid state drives we have reviewed in the past year or so. When these drives were first released 28% of the storage capacity was used for over-provisioning. So if you had a 128GB drive you would actually get 100GB of available space. Later this 28% was brought down to 7%, now SandForce has released a 0 provision that allows for 0% of the capacity to be used for background activities. Today we are taking a look at one of the first drives to use this 0 provision, the ADATA Premier Pro SP900.
In terms of performance, while we never did get the drive to hit the rated 270MB/s reads and 220MB/s writes, we came very close. Still, it's very cool to be able to plug into a USB 3.0 port and move huge amounts of data with ease in no time at all. We were able to stream high-definition video with nary a hiccup. Even with the turbo software in normal mode, this drive cooks but with turbo enabled it's simply amazing...
LSI’s new PCIe 3.0 HBA and MegaRAID offerings promise oodles of extra performance above and beyond the limitations imposed by PCIe 2.0. While the new Gen3 MegaRAID solutions are still a ways out, we happen to have a Gen3 HBA here. This particular 9207-8i is destined for our enterprise evaluation system, but since it’s a new product and all, we thought we’d hook up some SSDs and see if performance is really better as a result. Can we break the 3GB/s limit of the PCIe 2 LSI 9211? Can we get some great scaling off of eight Crucial M4 256GBs on 000F firmware?
