The NETGEAR ReadyNAS NV+ v2 is aimed right at the typical small business owner or advanced home user, by virtue of its size and form factor. It benefits from a recent tech refresh of its hardware and software, becoming the v2 model in the process. With four bays you can have both capacity and redundancy with RAID 5 on a three or four disk array. RAID expansion and migration are easy, with X-RAID2 software that manages all the hard work of expanding and migrating from a single disk to RAID 1, and then to RAID 5. The NV+ v2 uses a Marvell 6282 CPU, running at 1.6GHz and 256MB of DDR3 system memory. A single GbE network port is standard, as are two USB 3.0 ports on the back panel. Benchmark Reviews has tested several NAS products lately, ranging from simple two bay units, up to an 8-Bay NAS for the storage needs of large businesses. Let's see how this 4-bay device compares to its competitors.

Today's review will cover the NAS2XU2 NAS adapter from Addonics, which turns any USB hard drive into a network attached storage device. It's a small, very portable device that also provides a DHCP server, FTP server, Xbox 360 media server, and more. Time to take it for a test run.

An evolution, but not a revolution - that is how we'd like to describe Hitachi's new 4 TB hard drives. The performance is excellent. With its high data density the 7K4000 is the fastest 7,200 RPM drive that we've ever tested, while the 5,400 RPM 5K4000 almost achieves 7,200 RPM-like performance. The good performance and huge storage capacity luckily do not come at a high price. They don't cost more than typical 2+ TB drives if you look at the price per GB.
The noise production is acceptable, even though it could have been lower. The idle power usage could have been lower as well, especially considering the high probability that disks like these will end up in a Home Server or NAS.

It wasn’t so long ago that OCZ released the Agility 3 Series of solid state drives in effort to fill the space held by the typical consumer looking for a high performing, value oriented solution for their SSD needs. OCZ stepped out once again today by announcing release of their new Agility 4 to stand beside the Vertex 4, the V4 being the flagship of the Indilinx Everest 2 controller platform. As was the Agility 3 to the Vertex 3, the Agility 4 will be representative of both performance and value.

Kingston Digital recently began shipping the next generation of its most cost-effective SSDNow V Series solid-state drive, the Kingston SSDNow V300. This drive series is powered by the LSI SandForce SF-2281 Flash Storage Processor (FSP) that has been customized for Kingston, and optimized for industry-leading 19nm NAND Flash memory to deliver sequential read and write speeds of up to 450MB/s. Read on to see how this drive performs on our storage drive test system!

Although hard disk drives (or mechanical drives as some call them) have been around for many decades and names such as Seagate, Western Digital, HGST (Former Hitachi GST) and Toshiba have been tied to them only recently did they all of them decide to turn their focus to the manufacturing of solid state drives. Now this is somewhat strange since when the first consumer oriented SSDs started to appear roughly 5 years ago they were manufactured by companies that had nothing to do with storage media prior and although many of us in the industry hoped for the above companies to make a move and take the market by surprise none of them did. Seagate was the first to release an HDD/SSD hybrid with their Momentus XT 2.5" drives along with a couple of enterprise oriented SSD models but that was just about it and so my guess is that they all stayed out of the game not only to see how SSDs would fair in the market (just to be on the safe side of things) but also for prices to drop at acceptable levels. Well Seagate is back again with their first consumer oriented solid state drive model the 600 SSD and today with us we have the 240GB variant.

Roughly five years ago we first reviewed the Vantec NexStar MX hard drive enclosure. The NexStar MX was a stylish looking, dual drive RAID enclosure which featured USB 2.0 connectivity. Since that time, the NexStar MX has remained on the market as a good priced, good quality dual drive USB 2.0 enclosure. However, over the last five years a lot has changed with external storage. New interfaces like eSATA and USB 3.0 have quickly made the "slow" speed USB 2.0 almost extinct. To meet the demands of this ever evolving market, Vantec has taken the popular NexStar MX and revised it to now feature USB 3.0 and eSATA connectivity. Without any further adieu, let's see what the new and improved NexStar MX is all about!

"Alors que nous vivons l’ère du tout numérique, le NAS, abréviation de Network Attached Storage, est devenu le périphérique indispensable pour stocker et partager ses données sur son réseau local mais également à travers Internet. Une façon d’accéder à ses données dématérialisées quel que soit l’endroit où vous vous trouviez mais aussi quel que soit l’appareil utilisé."
