Western Digital's Raptor was a big hit with enthusiasts until the dawn of the SSD. Can the new 1TB release resurrect this species or will solid state be an extinction level event for this iconic product?

In terms of performance, if you were looking for surprises from the SandForce powered SanDisk Extreme, you'll find none here. Though no surprises, the performance is anything but disappointing. Blessed with high density, synchronous, and Toggle Mode NAND, we surmised that performance was going to be right up there with the best drives we've tested. We were right. It posted impressive scores on several of the benchmarks where it hit just over the rated specifications of 560MB/s reads and 520MB/s writes...

Solid state drives offer much better performance than traditional mechanical hard drives, so they are ideal for those who want the best possible performance from their system. Today we are going to look at two 60 GB SSDs, the Kingston SSDNow V+200 and the Zalman F-Series. Which one should you buy? Read on.

The Kingston V+ 200 has shown good performance overall. It also comes with a great packaging and a three year warranty, but most importantly with a low price. If you are looking for an SSD that will give life to your laptop or your desktop PC without spending a lot of money, then this drive is one to look at very closely

It’s not often that I credit a company’s business practices but this is going to be the exception for Matt Dawson and MyDigitalSSD who recently sent us three new SSDs for review, the Smart 256GB mSATA, the Bullet Proof 256GB value driven mSATA and the 512GB BP 3 2.5″ SSD. Today’s evaluation will be on the MyDigitalSSD Smart Series 256GB SATA 3 SSD and I guarantee this review will raise a few eyebrows. As a bit of a hint, let’s just say that things aren’t always as they seem.

Usually there is room for only a single hard disk in a laptop. When you need a lot of storage capacity the only option is to go for a 2.5-inch disk with the highest capacity possible.
Western Digital is not the only one with 1 TB 2.5-inch disks on the market, but the fact that the new Western Digital Scorpio 1 TB is only 9.5 mm thick means it will fit in most laptops. The performance is very good, due to the high data-density it performs as well as 7200 RPM disks. And to be clear, 1 TB 7200 RPM drives don't exist yet.

The most confusing thing to me is why Samsung, a company that makes one of the top SSDs on the market, would venture elsewhere to supply SSDs for their own Ultrabook, an Ultra that is arguably the best on the market in many respects. Our report today will be an overview of the new Samsung Series 9 15″ Ivy Bridge Ultrabook along with a more detailed analysis and very biased opinion with respect to where Samsung seems to be falling short in their quest for the perfect Ultra.

The new firmware really improves the performance of the Vertex 4 128 and causes a moderate improvement for the 256 GB version. Writing large files on the Vertex 128 GB now goes twice as fast, and 25 percent faster on the Vertex 4 256 GB. You will actually notice this increase when using the SSDs. In other areas the improvements are less drastic, which makes the average look less impressive. If you own a Vertex 4 128 GB or 256 GB then we definitely recommend installing the new firmware. Do remember to make a back-up first, for example with Ghost, otherwise you will lose all your data.

A little over a month ago, we here at The SSD Review took Corsair’s new Accelerator line of SSDs to the test, focusing specifically on the 60GB model and how drive-caching technology affected system performance. Astounded by the results, we were curious as to how the Accelerator performed at opposite ends of the capacity spectrum. Hence, those of you looking for a more affordable caching drive are in luck as we take a fresh look at the 30Gb flavored Corsair Accelerator SSD.
