When we reviewed the 512GB Vertex 4 in April, the drive literally blew us away. Finally, the Sandforce 2281 controller was dethroned at the top of the performance charts. Today we are looking at the 128GB Vertex 4, with the latest 1.4 firmware revision.

In the past we've taken a look at Network Storage devices from LaCie in their 'Network' line such as the 2Big Network 2 and the 5big Network 2. However today we're going to switch things up a bit and take a look at the 2Big NAS from LaCie.

Today we will be reviewing the Monster Digital 400GB Le Mans SSD. This SSD brings with it a hefty amount of overprovisioning with Toshiba Toggle NAND and an SF-2281 under the hood. Monster certainly isn’t the first name that pops into mind when one thinks of SSDs. Branching out into the new market of high performance SSDs is breaking new ground for this long standing company, so we intend to see how the newly formed Monster Digital division fares with their first release.

One of the first challenges new SSD users face is whether to migrate the system in place or to consider a fresh OS installation where one might ‘start from scratch’. In many cases, users have several years invested in their system whereas, with others, the security of a fresh installation is a major step towards SSD happiness. The choice of SSD migration may seem the simplest answer but users should be aware that things may not go as planned, thus mandating a fresh install in any case. This article is intended to provide a brief overview of system migration and some of the difficulties that may be encountered, as well as providing an alternative and comparison in completing a fresh OS installation with your new SSD.

Solid State Drives are becoming more and more common. I think I big reason for this is because people realize that they will give them the performance boost that they want when added to their system. The market seems to be flooded with drives and it is really hard to choose which one to get. One of the main determining factors to many people is the price. Kingston’s new HyperX 3K solid state drive is designed to be very inexpensive as it uses cost effective NAND rated for 3000 program / erase cycles. We will explain what all that means later on in the review. This drive still sports the very popular SandForce SF-2281 controller and of course the quality you expect from Kingston. Read on as we check it out!

Mushkin is best known for their memory products and while they don't have an expansive line of SSDs, they offer a drive for just about every type of user. The Chronos MX is not their flagship drive but chews up some serious data with popular SF-2281 controller under the hood. How does it compare with the long list of SandForce drives we tested? Have a look!

Kingston has recently introduced the HyperX 3K SSD and one of the options with it is the ability to purchase an upgrade kit that includes everything you need to get the drive installed in your system. I mean everything here, software for data transfer, actual tools, a 3.5” to 2.5” adapter and even a 2.5” USB external enclosure. This kit has everything you need to upgrade from a mechanical hard drive to a much faster SSD. So read on to see what’s all in the kit and see of the HyperX 3K SSD does against other drives….

Western Digital went with a black plastic casing on the My Passport 2TB that is adorned with a circular pattern and the WD logo and product name. The My Passport is rather small and measures in at just 111mm x 82mm x 21mm or 4.37" x 3.24" x 0.82" with a weight of eight ounces. This might sound large to some, but it isn't much bigger than an Apple iPhone 4S and easily fits in your pocket unless you are wearing skinny jeans...
