The time is ripe for LSI to introduced a follow-up to the SandForce SF-2281. The champion of yesteryear can no longer compete with today's fastest SSDs, such as the Samsung 840 Pro or OCZ's own Vector. SandForce SF-2281 has been demoted to budget SSDs.

Mit der Vertex 3 schuf OCZ einen der SSD Kassenschlager schlecht hin. Der verbaute SandForce Controller erreichte erstmals ungeahnte Geschwindigkeiten. Mit dem Kauf der Chipschmiede Indilinx Anfang des Jahres, verbreiterten die U.S. Amerikaner ihr eigenes Knowhow und präsentierten schon mit der Octane, dass erste Werk mit dem neuen Indilinx Controller. Die Neuauflage, also der Indilinx 2 kommt beim neuesten Spitzenmodell zum Einsatz. Mit der Vertex 4 möchte der Hersteller dort anknüpfen, wo der Vorgänger angesetzt hatte. Wir haben uns die SSD einmal angesehen und auf Herz und Nieren geprüft.
The Vertex 4 SSD from OCZ no longer uses a SandForce processor, but an Indilinx Everest 2 one, meaning that we do not longer have a lot of space used for over-provisioning and we should not have performance drops when using incompressible data. OCZ have also fine-tuned the firmware so performance delivery is different after the drive has been filled over 50% of it's total storage capacity.
The baby Vertex 4 128GB SSD grows up and with this newest firmware, it has quite a roar indeed.
OCZ take the Vertex series of SSDs to the next level with the Indilinx Everest 2 controller at the helm.
The Everest 2 platform comes as a result of OCZ’s acquisition of Indilinx in early 2011 but it isn’t the first time we have seen the Indilinx brand stamped on a Vertex drive. The company launched the original Vertex SSD as one of the pioneering flash storage solutions for mainstream users with an Indilinx controller under the hood. OCZ jumped on the SandForce bandwagon with the Vertex 2 and Vertex 3 but have come full circle back to an Indilinx solution with the Vertex 4... well, sort of. But we’ll get to that in just a bit.
When we reviewed the 512GB Vertex 4 in April, the drive literally blew us away. Finally, the Sandforce 2281 controller was dethroned at the top of the performance charts. Today we are looking at the 128GB Vertex 4, with the latest 1.4 firmware revision.
The Vertex is back, and this time it features more OCZ than ever before! (No, we're not kidding.) Powered by its latest Everest 2 platform, the Vertex 4 is a completely in-house SSD that not only brings Indilinx back to the table, but very well has the potential to be the most reliable Vertex-branded SSD we've ever seen.
