Benchmark Reviews recently reviewed the SilverStone SUGO SST-SG06B Case, and supplied with that product was the SST-SOD01 kit. As was mentioned in that review, the case supports only slim optical drives. The SST-SOD01 slim drive kit we received is actually the Panasonic UJ-875A Slim Optical Drive manufactured for SilverStone. Since many of you will undoubtedly be looking to purchase the SUGO SG06 case or another small form factor case, you will need a slim optical drive. Benchmark Reviews offers for your consideration the Panasonic UJ-875A 8X DVD +/- RW Slot Loading Slim Optical Drive with SATA interface and DVD-Burner capabilities.

Most recently, an SSD manufacturer finally did what we have been waiting for from SSD companies for quite some time. We find it amusing that manufacturers haven’t thrown their support in SSD reliability through extended warranties long before this since SSDs have been shown to be pretty much indestructible.Other World Computing (OWC) has not only tackled this with a new 5 year warranty on their new family of ‘Sandforce Driven’ 6G SSDs but also, they are still the only company we know of with a 30 day ‘no questions asked’ return policy.

Instead of placing your old 2.5” hard drive into a slow USB 2.0 enclosure, why not try something faster. OWC offers the Mercury On-The-Go FireWire 800 / USB 2.0 Portable Kit which allows the user to take advantage of Firewire 800 speeds. Plus the clear acrylic enclosure lets you see exactly which drive is housed within the enclosure.

Our report today is going to take a look at the OWC Mercury Helios PCIe Thunderbolt Expansion Chassis and we guarantee that is is unlike any you will ever see. In fact, we don’t know of many others who could even pull this off! In this report, we will not only cover the Helios as it was shipped to us with a OWC Mercury Accelsior PCIe SSD installed, but also, could we pull off a review of the Helios with the Intel 910 Series 800GB PCIe SSD installed in the same chassis?

Other World Computing (or OWC) is an Apple specialty store that also offers their own branded products. The company showed up on our radar when we first started seeing SandForce controlled SSDs entering the market. Even now only a small handful of the dozens of companies that are planning to offer SandForce SSDs have been able to bring them to market. OWC was immune to whatever problems other manufacturers are having and has a product on the market now, but that is only half of the story.

SSDs are both PC and Mac friendly, which is great news since Apple Computers have made significant progress taking up market share over the past decade. Although Mac computers can be expensive, Other World Computing offers hardware upgrades at prices that compete with the PC market. One such product, the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro-RE, is one of the most affordable SandForce-based SSD's available. SandForce-based SSDs are getting tremendous attention from the industry, and products based on the SF-1222 controller have demonstrated exceptional operational performance and speed. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the 100GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro-RE, model SSDMXRE100, against some of the fastest storage solutions on the market.

Other World Computing is well known to Apple Mac users, because they've focused on their needs for many years. But when you offer a five year warranty on PC-friendly components, it's hard to ignore the value. The OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G SSD OWCSSDMX6G120T is built from the 2nd-generation SandForce SF-2281 controller, and delivers up to 60,000 IOPS over the latest SATA-6Gb/s connection. Best of all, OWC offers a no-risk no-hassle 30-day money back guarantee. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G solid state drive against the leading competition.

The OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G previously reviewed at TechREACTION, remains one of the fastest SSDs reviewed here. Well time has passed and 34nm NAND is no longer as readily available so OWC has changed the NAND used to 24nm Synchronous Toggle NAND, why Synchronous NAND? The OFNI 2 specification lists maximum read and writes and only a few MBps difference on the high end. As reviews show though, 8MB cluster sizes are not the end all or be all of SSD performance.

Other World Computing, the small company capable of big surprises and market leading innovations is back at it again. We've already reviewed the Mercury Extreme Pro 6G 240GB solid state drive back in May 2010, but since then a revision was made to the PCB and now a new, more extensive revision has emerged.
Storage
We recently had a look at the 120 GB version of the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G and found it to be a very capable drive that competed with the top drives in its class. Now we've got our hands on the 240 GB version and did our usual tests to determine the overall performance. You might be surprised at the results we received - we were. Have a look at the article to see what we are talking about.
