QNAP is known for being rather expensive, but the TS-412 is the exception to the rule. QNAP makes nice products, but are typically also priced accordingly. We can certainly claim this after reviewing the QNAP TS-669 Pro. It's a powerful NAS with room for six disks running on Intel hardware. It's very comprehensive and fast, but with an average price tag of £872 it's not for everybody. The QNAP TS-412 is a different beast altogether, with room for four disks and a more reasonable price of £263 that's in the area of the recently tested Thecus N4100EVO.

Solid State drives are now a common storage option among the population, due to their now affordable prices, which instantly made them go mainstream. However single unit SSD’s are still storage devices they often do not attract a lot of users because they don’t offer a high amount of storage capacity without that price tag jumping to infinity. We all know (or at least most of us) that hard disk drives are much slower than solid state drives and so using the second just to house the primary OS (operating system) is always the ideal scenario. However no one can deny the splendid price/capacity ratio of HDDs especially now that we even have massive 4TB units available. Since their first SSD Intel have taken a few approaches to building the devices. Initially they went with their own controllers within the drives and it is fair to say that those drives were some of the best in early generations. Since then we have seen them dabble with updated controllers under their own brand, try out Marvell and more recently release a Sandforce based drive in the form of the 520 series.
Intel jumps into the server PCIe flash acceleration market and in a big way. With an amazingly low price point compared to competitors, Intel aims to dominate this market segment.
