Rules were made to be broken; that whole 55 MPH thing happens to be my favorite. Western Digital had larger aspirations; the kinds that considered milestones. Reaching the 750GB per platter mark is definitely in the milestone category and that is what Western Digital has done here.

Lacie introduces a cost saving alternative to USB 3.0 SSD storage. Will the capacity benefits outweigh the speed handicap? Read on and find out.

The second generation of the OCZ RevoDrive, dubbed the RevoDrive X2, arrived for testing and we were giddy with geek fueled excitement to see just how well it performed. Curious? I'll spoil the suspense now and sum it up in one word - WOW. See for the results for yourself in our in-depth review that includes real world benchmark tests!

The 4k random write thoroughput of the F90 and F180 has now been increased to a thoroughput of up to 50,000 which now matches that of enterprise-level SSDs and this is done through a recent release of SandForce firmware only available in new drives. In fact, we can even say that this firmware equals and sometimes surpasses that of the SF-1500 drive and a little known fact is that the SF-1200 and SF1500 are actually identical processors in hardware composition.

We've looked at several USB 3.0 drive enclosures and realize the enclosures are not the bottleneck limiting transfer speeds to around 200MB/s. As it stands right now, the promised USB 3.0 bandwidth claim of 5Gbps is a sham since the bandwidth from the USB 3.0 controller is limited at the motherboard level. Until we get more PCIe bandwidth dedicated to USB 3.0 we are stuck at around 200MB/s. USB 3.0 will one day offer over 600 MB/s, but until things change at the motherboard level we aren't going to see anything near that mark.

The Patriot Memory Extreme Performance Xporter XT Rage is a USB Flash Drive featuring an innovative Quad Channel configuration; data is intelligently managed and transferred simultaneously to 4 NAND chips resulting in vastly enhanced performance, mostly reflected in the write speeds. The Flash Drive comes in 8, 16, 32, 64Gb flavours.

'My SSD Is Faster than Your HDD' just doesn't seem to fit the part when we are speaking of the OCZ RevoDrive x2 PCIe SSD. Anytime you consider a product that is controlled by four (4) SandForce SF-1200 series controllers, prepare to be amazed. The RevoDrive x2 should knock your socks off with advertised specs of 740MB/s read and 690MB/s write and 4k random write of 100, 000 IOPS.

In just over a year we’ve gone from the QNAP TS-419 to the QNAP TS-419P+ with a TS-419P in the middle. The performance of each device has gradually improved. The QNAP TS-419U which I previously reviewed was aimed at the corporate market as it came in a rackmount design. However, the QNAP TS-419P+ is most definitely targeted at the home market. It doesn’t quite pack the same punch as the small business and corporate devices with their Intel ATOM processors, 1GB RAM and 512MB flash memory but it has all the same software features to give it that extra edge over the competition. The icing on top of the cake would be the support offered by QNAP. The forums and Wiki guide gives you more knowledge than you ever need. If you have a problem, there’s an answer.
