OCZ may not have created the Solid State Drive, but they've done more to bring SSD technology mainstream than any other company in the industry. Once SSDs could outperform their HDD counterpart, it was all about price and capacity. The OCZ Core Series helped to offer affordable Solid State Drive technology to the masses, but capacity and stuttering became new issues. Using a pair of JMicron JMF602B SSD controllers to organize two banks of Samsung K9HCG08U1M DRAM modules into a JMB390 controller, the new OCZ Apex Series SSD offers an impressive capacity with internal RAID-0 performance to subdue stuttering. Solid state drives may have been around in the consumer market for roughly 8 years now but they are still considered to be amongst the hottest PC/MAC hardware components aimed towards people who are after something more in terms of reliability and performance compared to regular mechanical drives. Certainly although once such drives were very popular mostly amongst gamers and professionals due to their price decrease over the past 2-3 years they've become a lot more mainstream thus you can find them even in low-cost desktop systems and notebooks. Still not SSDs have the same target audience not only because of their performance, capacity and price but also because of their durability and today we'll be taking a look at the latest model launched by OCZ the ARC 100 which always according to them it excels on all four.

The drives all passed the warranty figure of 300TB on 3rd February 2015 – but one of them has just failed with 322TB showing before failure.
USB 3.0 is being weaved into the marketplace one motherboard and notebook at a time. My last three motherboards have included at least two USB 3.0 ports and my new Lenovo mobile workstation also includes a single USB 3.0 port. Next year we should see the eradication of USB 2.0 all together; a move that I support not only because it will give me more products to write about, but because transferring data five times as fast saves everyone a lot of time.
External storage is a big business, look around and you’ll see all sorts of flash drives and portable hard drives for sale. People use them for everything from backups to transferring files to media uses and they all work well, but people want faster and that’s where the product I have for review today comes in. You could call it a flash drive, or a portable hard drive, but it’s actually an SSD with a USB 3.0 interface called the Enyo and it’s from OCZ Technology. The Enyo I received for review is a 64gb in size and it comes housed in an anodized aluminum casing and it’s fast, very fast. I’ve put it up against other USB 3.0 hard drives and flash drives in many tests, and if you want speed then this is what you want.

While at CES earlier this year we stopped by OCZ Technology's suite for a look at what they had planned for the coming year. The focus of their display was the emerging solid state drive market with several new and updated lines on display. While there we were also shown a prototype of their upcoming USB 3.0 portable solid state drive which was nameless at the time. Preliminary read / write speeds looked promising and the drive itself was encased in a sleek brushed aluminum enclosure. That prototype would eventually be called Enyo and we have one of the first production samples for review here today.
When we last looked at an OCZ product, the Vertex 2, we awarded it our Gold Award and scored it 9/10 and 10/10 in every aspect. So when we saw that they were one of the first manufacturers to release an SSD based on USB 3.0 technology we were keen to try it out. Today we have that SSD connected to our test bench and will be putting it through a selection of tests, including the all-important real world transfer test to find out how it compares to USB 2.0 based mechanical and flash based devices.
