Synology has NASes available for all price ranges. In this review we will look upon one of their offering aimed at budget conscious people, with two internal bays for 3.5’’ drives (for 2.5’’ we need to purchase an optional adapter), which also features a single-core 1.2Ghz processor along with 512MB of RAM and runs the latest version of DSM.

We've mentioned this a few times recently, but you really can't deny the fact that the controller used for the Kingston HyperX Navi Limited Edition is becoming obsolete. The LSI SandForce SF-2281 controller came out in 2011 and was state of the art, but today there are many better options. There is a good reason for why it's still a popular controller, and that's because it's the only turn-key solution complete with software.

SSDs werden günstiger, der Preis pro Gigabyte liegt aber noch immer deutlich höher als bei HDDs. Hybrid-Laufwerke (SSHDs) sollen die Vorteile beider Technologien zu vereinen.

Between TSSDR and Tech X in the last while, we have been fortunate to publish reports on some great Toshiba SSD releases to include their newest Q Pro Retail SSD, an exclusive report on their brand new client HG5d M.2 SSD, along with another on their client mSATA SSD. Today’s report is going to show a bit of our last Toshiba client sample, the Toshiba HG5d 512GB client notebook SSD.

The Asustor AS-302T Multimedia NAS Server is basically a mini computer system that serves as a dedicated storage device for all of your data needs. What really sets this apart from other NAS servers is it's ability to turn into a HTPC. Just add HDMI cable to a compatible HDTV and you're watching movies, TV shows and listening to your favorite music in no time. It comes with an Intel ATOM 1.6GHz Dual-Core Processor, 4 USB ports, up-to 2 drives can be installed, HDMI 1.4a connection, Gigabit Ethernet port, 3.5mm audio jack & works with just about an OS. For the money, the AS-302T is outstanding!

Roughly a week ago some friends visited our testing grounds (lab as some people like to call it) to see how we do things and from all the things they saw in here what really piqued their interest was the QNAP TS-469U-RP rackmount NAS Server which has taken a permanent role as our download server, DVB-T server and surveillance station. Of course the moment our friends learned of the price tag that specific mode has (or had since it's not widely available anymore) they were slightly disappointed since they too are looking to purchase NAS servers mainly for use as download servers and media players. Personally i also think that a NAS server used for media playback (thus placed close to your TV set) also has to be small in size and not just cost-effective something which obviously most NAS servers we've tested/used over the years are not. Thecus is trying to change that by introducing the latest N2560 2-Bay NAS Server which we've been testing for roughly a week now.

Toshiba is a world leader in many different technologies and applications. In the NAND market, for instance, they supply components for some of our favorite SSDs. But, they haven’t really been known as a major player in turn-key storage products. While they have an impressive offering of mechanical drives, especially for automotive and industrial uses, they are dwarfed by the duopoly that is Western Digital and Seagate. For SSDs, they are a major OEM supplier, but don’t have a major presence in the consumer market. Toshiba is a member of a select group that produces their own NAND. This puts them in the enviable position where they get to pay cost for the most expensive and important SSD component. They have the technology and manufacturing capabilities to put them on par with the Samsungs of the world in the SSD market, but that hasn’t seemed to be a priority for them.

A lot has changed since the announcement of the Optimus Eco earlier this year. The most notable change is the company supplying it. When we last looked into SMART Storage Systems, they had just finished being acquired by SanDisk. At that point, though, nothing had really changed except for ‘a SanDisk Company’ being added to their name. Many were unsure exactly how the SMART brand would fit into the SanDisk family. With the release of the SanDisk Optimus Eco SAS SSD, with full SanDisk labeling, we have a much clearer picture.

Last year we took a look at a very sexy external hard drive from ADATA. The DashDrive Elite HE720 was a great external hard drive, but it was limited by the mechanical hard drive that was inside of it. Well ADATA is back with the DashDrive Elite SE720, which looks almost identical to the HE720, but what’s under the hood is completely different. This time with the SE720 ADATA has packed it with a 128 GB solid state drive. That means you will not be limited by the hard drive that is inside and this will be one of the fastest external drives we have ever tested! How fast? Read on to find out!
