We’ve done a number of tests and the results are clear, the OCZ
Agility 2 with the SandForce 1200 Controller is a winner. The sequential
and random read and write performance is spectacular. We achieved 285MB/s
read and 275 MB/s write – this was with an operating system installed, not
just when using the Agility 2 as a secondary drive. For those who want
nothing but speed should certainly consider the OCZ Agility 2 in any one of
the capacities ranging from 40GB to 480GB! With the aggressive pricing from
OCZ, you won’t be disappointed.

As both popularity for SSDs and development of their technology grow, manufacturers are beginning to release their second generation SSD product lines. Today we have for review OCZ's second generation "mainstream" SSD, the OCZ Agility 120GB SSD. Back in May, OCIA.net site owner Shawn Knight had a chance to look at the first generation of mainstream SSDs from OCZ. That mainstream SSD, the Apex, performed exceedingly well for its price-point. Today, we'll see how substantially SSD consumers benefit from the development of technology over time.

A very good product from OCZ, the Agility series boost up to 216MB/sec reading and 176MB/sec writing with lower price than the Vertex series...
Storage
For many years OCZ have used tried and trusted Indilinx controllers but in recent months they moved to create units based around the Sandforce SF-1200 controller, which has helped them squeeze out more performance from the drives. This leads me into our review product today, the OCZ Agility 2 120GB which uses the very same controller.
Storage
Solid state drives not only offer an enormous reliability advantage over traditional hard disk drives, they offer great performance increases as well. Most people operate under the assumption it takes great money to get great performance. The Agility 2 claims to be the exception. Let's see if the Agility 2 has the moves to keep up with its boasts.
Storage
With the Agility series, OCZ has offered excellent performance at a value and the Agility 3 120GB continues this trend. With its SandForce controller the Agility 3 hits read speeds over 500MB/s and write speeds north of 450MB/s making it a speedy drive.
Storage
OCZ continues to release updates of their various SSD lines and the continue right along with the third generation of their Agility line. Housing the SandForce SF-2200 controller and listing read/write specifications that are only 5% off the Vertex 3 specifications, will the small differences in hardware make a big difference? We'll take a look to see how it plays out in the benchmarks and real world tests.

Our review today is going to concentrate on OCZs latest release of the OCZ Agility 3 SATA 3 240GB SSD and do somewhat of a comparison between this and other drives to include OCZs own Vertex 3 and Vertex 3 IOPS. The question fresh on everyone’s mind right now is definitely that of why would OCZ market another SSD with the same SandForce 2281 processor and similar configurations after just releasing the Vertex 3 MaxIOPS which was already very similar to the Vertex 3.

You know what I don't like about hot weather? Well, it has got to be the heat. (No kidding, right?) And with all the heat, sometimes it is just a bit hard to get my brain working correctly, and a working brain is very important if I want to write a good review introduction. The good thing is, by talking about the negative effects of heat alone, it already used up a few lines of the standard article opening length, and this really saved me some thinking in writing about stuff I really should have. Anyways, after wasting a good half a minute of your life you will never get back, what I want to talk about this afternoon is back to the topic of how awesome it is to own the ultimate sleeper laptop. This was first discussed in my G.SKILL F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ 2x4GB review back in the nice and cool December of 2009. Fast forward a year and a half, what I have here on the table is something that looks practically identical to what I had in the past, at least to the average consumer. To be specific, I am talking about no other than my new Lenovo ThinkPad T420 laptop. Sure, it may look like something from the 1990s, but with a Sandy Bridge processor, dedicated NVIDIA graphics with Optimus, 8GB of Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 RAM, and an OCZ Agility 3 240GB solid state drive, who is laughing now? The OCZ Agility 3 240GB is all about impressive speed, low power consumption, no moving parts, and decent storage space at a price that is still relatively affordable. Move aside, laptops that looks faster than what it actually is with 30 minute battery life: This is the real deal. Is the OCZ Agility 3 240GB the SSD to get for both hardcore mobile enthusiasts and performance desktop users? We got all the perspectives with benchmarks that are objective in our review today.
