It’s only a short time ago that I reviewed the Samsung 840 series of SSDs. The 840 series was the first consumer grade SSD to use TLC (Triple Level Cell) NAND. I am still conducting long term endurance testing on the 840 series SSD, and so far it has proven to be very durable.
If the 840 SSD has a weakness, then it is most certainly its sequential writing performance, which by today’s standards is rather pedestrian. Meet the new Samsung 840 EVO series of SSDs, which is said to address the lack of sequential writing performance of the original 840, and offer even more performance in other departments as well.
The 840 EVO series is available in the following capacities. 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, 750GB, and finally a 1000GB version. They all use Samsung’s new 19nm Toggle 2 TLC NAND, and also feature a new faster SSD controller.

It took a while for the enterprise market to embrace SSDs, but they're finally becoming more common. The advantage of the fast storage medium can benefit server workloads. Kingston would like the new E50 SSDs to be an affordable replacement for 10k or 14k rpm conventional hard disks. They're intended for read intensive workloads, which means they're not optimised for high endurance workloads in which SSDs are under continuous workloads. The new E50 SSD is significantly more affordable than other enterprise SSDs such as the Intel DC S3700 series.
The EonNAS Pro series is comprised of Infortrend’s SOHO/SMB solutions and they come in 2, 5, or 8 drive variants. For the most part, all of their current x10 models come with 2GB of memory and are powered by an Intel Atom Dual-Core 2.13Ghz Processor. They do have a couple variants of the EonNAS Pro 850 which ramp up the installed memory to 8GB of memory and the processor to an Intel Core i3 Dual Core 3.3Ghz chip. In today’s review, we will be taking a look at the EonNAS Pro 510 specifically, which Infortrend sent to us with 4 x 1TB drives installed.
