Good things come in small packages and the QNAP TS-259 Pro is exactly that. You shouldn't be fooled by the small footprint. Packed inside this small chassis is a very powerful dual core Intel Atom processor with 1GB of memory. The result is a powerful server capable of RAID 1 performance with little overhead loss or a lightning quick RAID 0 configuration. If you're strictly concerned about numbers, the TS-259 Pro will easily put up 100MB/s+!

Network storage is a concept that many people use without a second thought in corporate environments, but what about at home? In addition, a larger number of people are beginning to utilize cloud services, and most of those services include some storage capability. What if you could implement both, easily and with one device? All that and much more is readily available in a Network Attached Storage server from industry stalwart, QNAP. The TS-219P+ Turbo NAS uses a modern, energy-efficient 1.6 GHz Marvell ARM-based processor with 512 MB of DDR3 system memory to drive this storage server. A single Gigabit Ethernet network interface feeds data to the CPU, and then it's sent to two SATA 3Gb/s drive bays offering single disk, JBOD, and RAID 0/1 configurations. Benchmark Reviews recently examined the QNAP TS-659 Pro II Turbo NAS in detail, and now we compare the performance of this smaller unit against other network attached storage servers. If your m! edium-term data needs can be covered by 2-3GB of storage, you're a good candidate for a smaller two-bay unit like this one.

Today for review I’ve got a little NAS box from Qnap called the TS-219P. It supports two 3.5” or 2.5” SATA hard drives and is truly feature packed with the ability to become your main network storage device at home and while on the go. Not only is it for storage and backups, you can stream from it, use it as a mini-surveillance system, a web sever, or even a stand alone torrent machine.

So where do I stand when it comes to evaluating the QNAP TS-219P as an overall unit? The benchmark results are certainly respectable. You can count on performance in the range of 20 to 40MB/s depending on file size and transfer rate. The difference between RAID 0 and RAID 1 is large enough that you'll notice a small increase in speed but at the same time small enough that you won't be waiting forever while data is duplicated to both drives.
Storage
When it comes to a cool feature packed Network Attached Storage device you'll be hard pressed to find anything more versatile than the QNAP TS-219P NAS. It comes with a whole laundry list of features specific to the task of serving up files but also for serving up other things like web applications, multimedia content, dynamic database content and even downloading files over BitTorrent.

According to Google, success is broadly defined as "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose". But what does it specifically mean to you? Back in the day, I have heard many individuals craving for lots of money to live well. Others have dreamed of owning many exotic cars. As for myself, I like to follow Albert Einstein's formula. "A + B + C = Success, if A = Hard Work, B = Hard Play, C = Keeping your mouth shut." If any one of those elements were taken out of the formula, success does not exist in my world. Personally, this has been very applicable with many tasks that I accomplish, especially when it comes down to important work that must be done, whether it be at school or at work. Missing hard work would lead to a low quality end product. Having no "play" will simply drive you up the wall. Lastly, keeping my mouth shut is how I personally get things done without getting distracted. Writing papers and delivering presentations with appropriate content is what makes the audience keep reading and paying attention from start to finish. When it comes down to technology, I apply the same concept in consumer products I obtain. I look for products that pack both quality and fun together, while being advertised in an elegant and presentable way. What we have here today is QNAP's TS-219P II network attached storage system. While maintaining its clean looks, it packs quite a big punch with the amount of features loaded for the end user. Despite its size, I'm sure this little guy wow you just as much as other products in the line such as the QNAP TS-559 Pro II reviewed by my colleague Jonathan not too long ago. Curious to what the TS-219P II can do? Keep reading to find out!

The TS-219P is a great solution for home users who want a full-featured NAS with a compact design and cheaper price tag than some of the larger QNAP NAS units. Two drive bays and the option of single disk, JBOD, or RAID 0/1 configurations will meet the needs of most home and small office users. Additionally, the built in software provides functions well beyond just storage.

The TS-119P+ continues QNAP's reputation of making fast, reliable NAS units for all types of environments. This little one-bay offering is perfect for a home or small office with simple storage and backup needs.
