There has been a rather large emphasis on SSD's as of late. The big manufacturers like Intel, OCZ and Crucial have all been working hard releasing their new series of drives. Theses drives offer blistering performance using the relatively new SATA 6GB/s interface, but they also burn a heck of a whole in the end user's wallet! Part of the reason for this high price tag could be down to the controller they use, or the fact that they expect the enthusiasts to pay 'top dollar' for the best performance.

We recently had a look at the 120 GB version of the OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G and found it to be a very capable drive that competed with the top drives in its class. Now we've got our hands on the 240 GB version and did our usual tests to determine the overall performance. You might be surprised at the results we received - we were. Have a look at the article to see what we are talking about.

OCZ Technology has another winner on its hands with the RevoDrive X2 100GB PCI Express SSD! It is hard not to be impressed by an SSD that offers read speeds of up to 740MB/s and write speeds of up to 690MB/s. A variety of tests were run on the RevoDrive X2 and a collection of five other "high speed" SSDs, and the RevoDrive X2 was consistently dominant.

At this point we've seen all of the larger, 256GB based SSDs and it's now time to start looking at the 128GB range. The 120GB - 128GB capacity size is important for manufacturers and consumers since this is the size that most of you are looking to purchase. The 128GB drives are very affordable this year, quite a bit less than the 2010 crop of drives and offer an amazing amount of performance.

Today’s complete review of the OCZ RevoDrive 3 x2 PCIe SSD is published on the heels of our ‘Quick Look’ of the Revo 3 a few weeks back which resulted in a flurry of attention by PC enthusiasts worldwide. As many e-mails that were received in result, they never compared to the backlinks returned from dozens of forums with members salivating over the Revo 3 x2 and anticipating its release date. It turns out that our ‘Computex Taipei’ RevoDrive 3 x2 SSD benchmarks were an exclusive first look at this cards performance as we tried a new approach in conducting first hand independent benchmarks at Computex on nothing more than a flash drive.

OCZ gave everyone a hint of things to come at Computex 2011 with a sneak peak of the third generation of the RevoDrive. We've been impressed with our previous encounters with this SSD line and this time is no different as we give the RevoDrive 3 X2 480GB PCI-E SSD a test drive. Is it fast? Well, how does 1500MB/s reads grab you? Oh yeah, there's TRIM support too!

Up for review today I’ve got an external hard drive enclosure from patriot Memory called the Gauntlet. This hard drive enclosure is essentially a solid piece of aluminum that will not only protect the drive inside, but will help to keep it cool as well. The Gauntlet features a USB 3.0 connection for fast read and writes, but it also has a backup button on it to allow you to instantly backup your data to the external drive.
