Recently we've been reviewing some pretty high end graphics cards, and while it's all well and good checking out the £100 plus fair, the real money is made for the manufacturers in the budget, to mid range cards. So, if you're looking at the current generation of ATI's GPUs, and anything with 4 and 8 at the start of the name is too much for you, perhaps the 4670 from HIS is up your street; let's test it and find out.

With the new line up of graphics cards coming from AMD and Nvidia, we can expect some nice price drops on the last generation as both firms and their partners attempt to clear old stock. This means it’s upgrade time whether you’re buying the latest cards or not, but not necessarily just for the high end.

Today we shall review two graphics cards from HIS. Only one of those - HIS 6850 Fan 1GB GDDR5 HDMI/2xDVI/DP - is actually made by the company, the other copies the reference design.

Today we’re looking at the HIS 6950 IceQ. It’s HIS’s take on a regular 6950, featuring a custom PCB and cooler. Running at the same speed as a reference card, there won’t be much performance improvement until we begin overclocking, where the custom cooler with its massive fan should come into play. Let’s see how it performs.

Today we shall review a trio from HIS based on the Radeon HD 6970, Radeon HD 6950 and Radeon HD 6850 GPUs. Some of these solutions copy reference design, but every card is nevertheless factory-overclocked and has a rather efficient cooler.

Up for review today I have the HIS 7750 iCooler edition video card that features 1gb of DDR5 ram on board. This card features DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort connections on it and it’s more of a budget style card coming in at around $110.00. The HIS 7750 features their own iCooler GPU cooler on it that does a very good job at keeping things cool and being quiet while doing it. I’ve put it up against a few other cards I’ve got on hand so let’s see how it does in benchmarks and gaming….

The Radeon HD 7750 comes with an efficient and silent cooling solution, in low profile format and with very good overclocking capabilities, which makes it a very good card for integrating into a media center. With it we are also able to game with medium to high details most games with the 1680x1050 or 1680x1200 resolutions.

The new HIS 7790 iCooler Turbo card is well balanced and is recommended to people on a tighter budged which will want to upgrade their old GPU in order to be able to play the latest games on monitors up to 24’’. The cooling system is simpler compared to the offerings from XFX or PowerColor and an overclocking utility is supplied on the HIS website for added value.

Looking for a video card that can run most games at high details (up to Full HD Resolution), features massive overclocking from the factory and also sports a quiet and efficient cooling system? Then the 7850 IceQ Turbo 2GB GDDR5 might be quite the right choice, for a price that should not exceed 200 Euros.
