Two days ago AMD introduced the new Radeon R9 280X, R9 270X and R7 260X graphics cards (you can find our review here). Granted, the main 'new' thing about the cards were their names, considering the R9 280X is a different version of the Radeon HD 7970, the R9 270X is an updated version of the HD 7870 and the R7 260X is based on the Radeon HD 7790. We tested the ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD5, MSI R9 280X Gaming, MSI R9 270X Hawk and MSI R9 270X Gaming 2G.

While the HD 7700 series left us feeling overall pretty flat, the same can't be said for AMD's new HD 7900 series which offered us awesome performance. Along with strong numbers, though, we saw the new 28nm based cards run cooler, quieter and draw less power at both idle and load - they impressed us a lot.
We've got our fingers crossed that the HD 7800 series sits more in line with the HD 7900 series than it does the HD 7700 series. Considering AMD also have no older previous generation video cards at the $249 price point for the HD 7850 and $349 price point for the HD 7870, we're already off to a better start.

AMD’s HD6970 has been a favourite with the high end enthusiast user since it was released. The reference design card is a powerful discrete solution but it was never equipped with the greatest cooling solution. Sapphire have decided to replace their reference card with a new Dual fan, heatpipe cooler. At no extra cost.

Late last month, Nvidia launched the GeForce GTX 760, a new generation mid-range graphics card available for around 240 euros. You can find our in-depth review here. We already tested cards from MSI, EVGA and Inno3D for that review, but ASUS did not have a card for us at the time. By now we've had the opportunity to test an ASUS GeForce GTX 760, and the prices of the others are also available to us now. Today we will find out which of Nvidia's partners did the best job, and who has the best price.

Nvidia’s GTX 780 Ti graphics card popped up unexpectedly by Nvidia’s normal standards of meticulous planning, very much in a similar way to the arrival of the GTX 650 Ti Boost. The GTX 780 Ti was announced around the buzz of AMD’s R9 290X graphics card release, as a direct response, much like the GTX 650 Ti Boost was released at short notice to fend off competition from the HD 7790. The GTX 780 Ti we have here today certainly isn’t a modest GPU by any stretch of the imagination with Nvidia boldly claiming the title of “the fastest GPU in the world”. Let’s be frank though, for a price of $699, compared to the $549 AMD charges for its R9 290X, you’d certainly hope that the GTX 780 Ti was the fastest GPU in the world because you are paying top dollar for it – 27% more by my calculations. Nvidia’s GTX 780 Ti is hoping to encapsulate all the latest cutting edge features and technologies from Nvidia including GPU Boost 2.0, G-Sync support, 4K capability, GeForce experience, the GameWorks program, Nvidia ShadowPlay and much more.
First let’s start off with the raw specifications and straight away we can see the GTX 780 Ti is set to be a stronger performer than the GTX Titan. It features more of everything with the entire GK110 GPU enabled – yes that’s right every single SMX unit on the GK110 die is enabled allowing for the maximum 2880 CUDA cores giving the GTX 780 Ti some crazy performance potential. It also boasts higher clocks than the GTX Titan and so we can expect to see it be a much stronger performer than the GTX Titan, the only reason you’d buy a GTX Titan now is because it is the only consumer grade graphics card that comes with 6GB of VRAM as standard – that said you can pick up 6GB versions of AMD’s HD 7970/ R9 280X (like Sapphire’s Toxic variant) but of course the HD 7970 has nowhere near the power of the GTX Titan or the GTX 780 Ti. Looking back at speculation we saw earlier this year the GTX 780 Ti is essentially the GTX Titan Ultra that everyone was expecting to see.

In this live article we will continuously add more video card results compared in 15 benchmarks, run at 5 different resolutions/settings, and also measuring power consumption, noise and temperature. In short: a result database. In our initial release we have tested 14 different video cards, ranging from low end Geforce 8500 GT to high end GTX 280.

Long known for its value products, Powercolor has been one of AMD’s longest serving and most loyal partners. Over the past 12 months, they have also invested heavily in product design – especially coolers. Today we continue our coverage of AMD’s Radeon HD 6900 series launch, looking next at the PowerColor HD6970 graphics card. Let’s put this card under the KitGuru Labs microscope and see what makes it tick.
