You might wonder why we'd bother looking at the reference GTX 570 when we've already had a look at an option from Gainward which carried with it both an overclock and a new cooler. Well, the reason is simple - While the Gainward card is good, it doesn't offer the truest form of GTX 570, as it's got a bigger cooler, an overclock and a higher price tag. What it ends up doing is skewing everything for us and it makes it a little difficult to tell you exactly how one model compares directly against it.

The GTX 560 Ti ultimately has two jobs to do; one is to help make sure that NVIDIA offer a broad range of pricing options for people wanting to get into the GTX 500 series, while the other is to lay the smack down on AMD. Priced under $250, the model clearly sits well with the GTX 570 costing $100 more, and the GTX 580 costing another $150 more on top of the GTX 570 for a price tag that's pretty much double of the GTX 560.

In the first of our GTX 560 Ti launch articles we have the Palit GTX 560 Ti Sonic on our test bench and will be running it through a selection of real world tests to establish how well it performs against the current line-up from AMD and NVIDIA. Tests will include Black Ops, Crysis, F1 2010 and of course our usual selection of GPU computing and multimedia tests.

Now for those of you who were gaming in 2002, you may recall the beloved Geforce Ti series or even owned one. These cards were hugely popular with the community and turned out to be a goldmine for NVidia. As you can see the naming scheme has returned to play upon the reputation those cards attained.

This morning the video card market got a little more crowded as NVIDIA announced the GeForce GTX 560 Ti and AMD released a variant of the Radeon HD 6950 with 1GB of memory on it. Over the past week we've had a chance to test both of these cards that are aimed at the gamer that has around $250 to spend. Read on to see how both of these cards perform on our Intel Core i7-970 test system!

To cover SLI testing on the GTX 560 Ti we are using the ASUS DirectCU 2 TOP Edition, a custom designed version of the product which is factory overclocked. We will be testing the card against the 6870 in CrossFire to see, in real world scenarios, which multi-GPU configuration offers the best experience. As always Surround gaming videos will be included, as will 5760x1080 screenshots and of course the usual selection of high definition playback and GPU computing tests. To round things off we will see if we can break the 1GHz barrier on this card.

The MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II/OC is a factory-overclocked GeForce GTX 560 Ti with a better cooling solution that, believe it or not, comes at the same price point as the standard GeForce GTX 560 Ti. Let's check it out.
