Gigabyte has three NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 models for you to pick from. The card that we are looking at today is the Gigabyte GTX 960 G1 Gaming, which is the flagship model.

ZOTAC has an incredible GeForce GTX 970 video card on its hands with the AMP! Extreme Edition, which has some hidden, untapped power.

With the launch of the 900 series of cards MSI also launched their new Twin Frozr V cooling. Sadly up until now we haven’t had the chance to actually check out one. With the GTX 960 launch setting down MSI sent over their GTX 960 Gaming 2G for us to check out. This gives us a great chance to see what their new cooling is capable of and to be able to compare it to some of the competition. My expectations are high because MSI has done a great job on the cooling front for a long time now. So let’s put the GTX 960 Gaming 2G to the test and see how it performs.

NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 960 is here and it is really going to hit that sweet spot for gaming when it comes to the price / performance ratio. MSI of course have released a few different GTX 960 models (4 currently) and today we will be taking a look at their highest performance part the GTX 960 Gaming 2G. This card of course falls in MSI’s very popular gaming line and comes with a factory overclock bringing the core clock up to 1216 MHz and the boost clock up to 1279 MHz. The card also ships with MSI’s new Twin Frozr V cooling solution that has many new improvementsthat we will go over in detail. Being part of the Gaming Series this card uses MSI’s Military Class components and also comes with a great software suite. Will this be the GTX 960 for you? Read on as we find out!

The final piece needed to get our In Win D-Frame Mini build together was a powerful video card that runs cool, quiet, and matches the red and black theme of the build. For a short while I ran a reference GTX 980 but quickly switched to the Asus GTX 980 Strix. Well today I’m going to take a closer look at the card to see what it Is all about, how it performs, and how well it overclocks. Going off previous Strix reviews we can expect it to run well and stand out in the noise department as well assuming the Strix cooler can keep the GTX 980 running cool.

Out of the five GTX 970 cards we tested it is a draw between the ASUS Strix and MSI Gaming kaarten, both have excellent performance, are priced competitive and are quiet. The Gigabyte and Inno 3D kaarten are slightly faster out of the box than the ASUS and MSI but are also noisier. The Zotac card looks special, but has a price to match that and we could not see the value or get the results from the special overclock PCB as you have seen in the test. Out of all GeForce GTX 980 cards tested we prefer the Palit Super JetStream, its fast, affordable, the quietest and has plenty of overclocking headroom to boot. Should you want to look at three or four way SLI we would not use the Pali as it takes up three slots. The EVGA Superclocked ACX 2.0 is almost as good as the palit and can be easily used in a multi GPU setup. The new fans used on this EVGA card should last longer as well, but we can not prove this at the moment. The Strix and Gaming cards from ASUS and MSI are both good cards, but the Gigabyte and Inno3D GTX 980 cards are to loud for our liking. The Zotac card deserves a special mention as this is the fastest card in our test with excellent overclocking headroom and not too noisy under load.

2015 has started with a whimper, more than a bang. AMD have yet to release new architecture so it falls on their partners to create enticing, competitive and effective solutions. Sapphire have been leading the way for some time now, and their latest 8GB card has been launched to supplement the more expensive Vapor X model. This new Tri-X card is equipped with 8GB of GDDR5, ships with a custom cooler and is overclocked. At £349.99 is also £70 cheaper than the Vapor X model (£419.99) – surely a more realistic asking price in today’s market.

Here at eTeknix, we strive to give the consumer the best possible advice in every aspect of technology. Today is no different, as we have 2 GeForce GTX 960’s ready for some testing. The first is the Asus STRIX GeForce GTX 960 (check out our review of that here) and the second is the Gigabyte G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 960 (check out our review of that here). When striving for the best results, it is favourable to test 2 of the same models to allow for no variation in any clock speeds or variations in any integrated components. Fortunately, as these cards are both non-reference, we have some headroom for overclocking, which is sometimes not present in reference models.
