Legit Reviews was down in Texas this weekend for the FX GamExperience and noticed that ASUS was showing off their upcoming Radeon HD 7970 DirectCU II video card! ASUS informed us that the card just arrived in the United States on Friday and was hand flown to Texas just for the event. This is the first public showing of this highly anticipated video card and we got to spend some time with it!

Nvidia will release its next high-end graphics card at CES in Las Vegas on January 8th and the company has given us the opportunity to give bit-tech’s readers a sneak peek at how the GeForce GTX 295 will perform. However, because the card is not available on the market yet, and won’t be until January 8th at the earliest, the company has asked us to adhere to a number of restrictions.

Out of the five AMD Radeon R9 270X we tested, the MSI R9 270X Gaming came out on top. It's the most silent, energy-efficient and, more importantly, the most affordable card. If you enjoy overclocking video cards, the Hawk is a good option.

A PC that doesn't make a sound, it remains the ultimate goal for many a hardware enthusiast. We recently review the passively cooled HTPC chassis Streacom FC-5. The Dutch company Quibus Enzo proved with its Knoll Creek Silent system that it's possible to passively cool a fairly powerful system with a Core i5 processor and Radeon HD 6770 graphics card quite effectively, as long as you use the right components. If you want to create your own completely silent desktop along the same lines, you'll need a passively cooled graphics card. There isn't a whole lot of choice in that category, but Hardware.Info tested and reviewed four of them.

GPU frametime tests are suddenly a hot topic. Both AMD and Nvidia have previously stated their objections to this testing method, but only recently did the former go into greater detail about why this is so and what the company has been doing to address the micro-stuttering issues observed during frametime tests of its GPUs. Meanwhile, the latter has been quietly working on an alternative testing method, which it supplied complete with hardware and software to a very limited number of online IT publications. During the GDC this past week, our Editor-in-Chief Koen Crijns caught up with all major players in this debate in order to get to the bottom of the various issues at stake here.

A number of years ago FSP started producing retail power supplies for desktop PCs and during 2011 released their 80 Plus Gold Certified range of PSUs. There are two ranges available in the Aurum range, standard and semi-modular and today we have the 650w version of the modular PSU on our test bench.

Today we publish our results on a week’s worth of testing and find out if it really is such a controversial card or if it is worth talking about for completely different reasons. In addition to this we will take a look at another Radeon card … the XFX 4850 XXX which shares a similar price point to the GTS 250.

We're not far at all from the launch of the new AMD cards, but there's one thing we know; the two models launching this week won't carry a price tag as low as the GTS 450, so it continues to be a very real model for NVIDIA. Instead, the new models will be launching to compete around the GTX 460 it seems. We'll know more about it soon enough, though.
