We have reviewed many GTX460′s on KitGuru over the last month and we are confident that this nVidia product is quite possibly the best value for money gaming card on the market today, bar none. It has won our highest awards, and deservedly so.

KitGuru is old in the tooth and likes naming conventions which don't change. With the launch of the Radeon HD 6000 series, AMD has altered its naming strategy. The high end cards will now be the 6900 series (due November) and the 6800 cards that we're looking at today, will actually be sold for less than £200 each, including VAT (we're guessing that's under $250 for our American readers). How much can any gamer get from a graphic card that costs so little?

The ASUS EAH6870 1GB Radeon HD6870 graphics card arrived on the test bench as a bit of a mystery, as I was not sure what to expect. After some time testing it against an HD5850 and an HD5870, I have to admit that I am impressed. While it may put up results in benchmarks and games that rival the HD5870, there is much more to consider.

HIS has come out fast this time with a pre overclocked card and to be honest, they need to. At some point you may want to give more out of your system when it comes to gaming, the easiest way is to upgrade your graphics card, but when you're on a budget, that's not the most beneficial way. Generally getting another card using the same GPU core and attaching it as a secondary card is the way to go.

Since the onset of the computer, graphics have always been a major part of the user interraction. Early days saw graphics in the form of lights and numbers, but since the dawn of the GUI interface, the need for more and more power to produce high resolution and detailed images has been a constantly growing demand.

AMD decided to mix things up a bit when they released the HD6000 series first by releasing the midrange cards first and next by using previous high end naming schemes to describe them. So while the HD5870 was the previous generation "bad-boy" the new HD6870 was nothing more than a docile pony designed to give the nVidia GTX 460 some company.

With the introduction of AMD's Cayman GPU, the Radeon HD 6870 video card becomes their flagship DirectX-11 desktop video card. Gamers can expect the PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 to quench their thirst for demanding graphics power while introducing several new MSAA modes such as Enhanced Quality Anti-Aliasing (EQAA). The PowerColor Radeon HD 6970 features enhanced DirectX 11 tessellation effects, while still producing top-end frame rates to help gamers build their killstreak. In addition to a new VLIW4 shader core architecture, the Cayman GPU also offers accelerated multimedia playback and transcoding, AMD HD3D stereoscopic technology, and the 3D Blu-ray multi-view CODEC (MVC). In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests graphical frame rate performance of the PowerColor AX6970 2GBD5-M2DH using the most demanding PC video game titles and benchmark software available.
