With each new generation of GPUs comes a slew of reviews as writers and analysts around the world scramble to see what those few extra frames per second will look like; god damn we're nerds arn't we? Still, here we are once again taking a peak at the latest offerings from AMD, the 6 series. Due to a naming convention change ala nVidia, AMD have chosen to name this card the 6850, despite it really having 67xx performance; or at least that's what we're expecting.

The ATI 5 series Direct-X 11 capable graphics cards are flooding on to the market with numerous versions and models spanning a wide range of price / performance ratios. The 5700 series (5770 & 5750) have bolstered the budget options but ATI have continued to push ahead with the top-end performance cards with the 5970 being the front-runner so far it would seem.
Many consumers still don't have the financial freedom to lay out $300+ of their hard earned cash on a high end video card, nor do they really need the power that a 69xx series card brings to the table. Some consumers simply don't have the need for high end 3D and are content with video playback and minor 3D capabilities. The top end graphics cards from both Intel and ATI are becoming more and more expensive and with the current economic crisis, the two don’t exactly go hand-in-hand. As a result, ATI have come up with the 4770 with a price point of around £80 which should appeal to a much wider range of users. The card is also ATI’s first to be manufactured using a 40 nanometre manufacturing process and contains 826 million transistors, 640 shader processing cores and 512MB of GDDR5 memory on the R740 core.

Sure not everyone needs a watercooled videocard, but this videocard is not targeted towards the everyday gamer. This product has the crosshairs on the consumer that has the money, wants the best, wants it easily installed, and wants to game as fast as possible without the noise and bother. To me, if you can afford it, you cannot afford to turn this option down. Period ...
The Sapphire HD5570 has to be taken in context to truly see how and where this product fits in ATI's current lineup of DirectX 11 videocards. The HD5570 is targeted towards the user that wants a small form factor card to insert into a small workstation or HTPC, but doesn't want to settle for the very basic performance of the HD5450.
