Nearly half a year since that launch of NVIDIA's GF100 Fermi GPU, the landscape has hardly changed. NVIDIA still sells the most powerful graphics processor made, and for a select few with money set aside for elite-level graphics the top-end GeForce GTX 480 video card still offers good reason for purchase. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the ASUS ENGTX480/2DI/1536MD5 GeForce GTX 480 video card. This GF-100 GPU Fermi-based graphics card is the key to many things: high-performance 3D-Vision and 3D-Vision Surround, unmatched PhysX potential, and one part of an unbeatable SLI set. Our benchmark tests compare 3D frame rate performance with the ASUS GeForce GTX 480 in single-card and SLI-modes against some of the most powerful graphics products on the market.

Last month NVIDIA launched their new midrange video card: the GeForce GTS 250. Benchmark Reviews covered the launch with two articles focusing on single-card performance and SLI performance at reference clock speeds. In this review, we turn our attention to partner products. Specially, we take a look at an overclocked GTS 450 offered by ASUS. With a 925MHz core clock speed and DDR5 running at 4000MHz, the ENGTS450 DirectCU TOP ships out well above the reference clocks speeds we benchmarked at during the launch and represents ASUS' highest out-the-door overclock. In this review, we'll put it to the test against a similar clocked offering from EVGA, AMD's HD5770, and one of the previous generation's top cards: the HD4870.

Now we come to another test; can the X58A-UD9 really handle Quad SLI with four GTX 480 GPUs? - This is a bigger question than you might think. While we know that GIGABYTE dropped in two NF200 chips (each with 32 PCIe 2.0 lanes), what we do not know is if the power regulation, capacitors and other components can truly handle the current and wattage draw from four GTX 480s along with everything else that would be needed to run the board.

For some the $200+ price tag associated with the GTX 460 continues to be too much and the new GTS 450 we've looked at over the past month seems to be doing a good job of filling that low $100 bracket that users on a budget no doubt appreciate.

We got word late yesterday by a friend at NVIDIA that Best Buy had slipped up and released NVIDIA branded graphics cards on Sunday night. This is the first time that we have seen NVIDIA branded video cards being sold direct and we went to a few Best Buy stores in St. Louis and sure enough, we spotted the cards sitting on store shelves. We couldn't leave the store empty handed, so we bought the card for $299.99 and headed back to see what it was all about.

We have two of PowerColor's Radeon 5870 PCS+ cards on our test bench. We will be running them through 1920x1080 and 5760x1080 tests in a number of the latest games, including Medal of Honor, Civilisation 5 and F1 2010 to see what the user experience is like (Eyefinity videos included). In addition to this we also look at GPU computing and HD playback to get a full overview of the PowerColor model.

If the emails we have been receiving for the last month have been anything to go by, the enthusiast gaming audience is warming to the thought of low cost multiple monitor configurations. We recently reviewed the mouth watering XFX HD5970 Black Edition Limited 4GB in CrossfireX, but as many people have pointed out, this is merely a toy for the rich.

Zotac GeForce GTX 480 AMP is simply an excellent high-end product. Firstly, factory overclocking make it almost an absolute performance leader. Secondly, its cooler offers outstanding performance and makes no noise.
