The AMD 5xxx series has been a resounding success, dominating the mid/high range sector since it was released many months ago. We wouldn’t be the Guru’s of Kit we proclaim to be if we didn’t take a look at one of the sexiest 5850’s on the market – The Sapphire HD5850 Toxic Edition. This card was released several months ago and is a complete redesign of the AMD reference edition design.

It is hard to believe that KitGuru only opened a month ago, we have been working around the clock to ensure that we review the hottest products on the market … even if some of them have been out for a while. Today we are going to look at the Sapphire HD5770 Vapor X, which on paper looks to be one of the finest HD5770’s available. The Sapphire card comes with a very modest 10mhz increase on the core, raised from 850mhz to 860mhz.

Today however we have something special in mind for our readers. The new Sapphire HD5770 Flex Edition which can support up to four monitors via ATI Eyefinity. Sapphire have managed to achieve this by using three DVI connections – one being an HDMI to DVI adapter. The card itself operates at 850 mhz core and 1200mhz (4800mhz effective) on the GDDR5 memory.

If the emails we have been receiving for the last month have been anything to go by, the enthusiast gaming audience is warming to the thought of low cost multiple monitor configurations. We recently reviewed the mouth watering XFX HD5970 Black Edition Limited 4GB in CrossfireX, but as many people have pointed out, this is merely a toy for the rich.

For a DirectX 11 launching point, the HD5770 from Sapphire is surprisingly a very quick and powerful videocard for little money. Right out of the box it plays with the HD4850, bullies it around the school yard then takes its lunch. Then it runs over to the HD4870, runs circles around it, and then gives it a black eye.

While a single card is great for a low powered media center and occasional gaming we decided to follow up our initial review by seeing just what was possible with two of these in Crossfire X.

We have reviewed many Sapphire graphics cards on KitGuru over the last month and we have found them all worthy of serious consideration in their respective sectors. They often include some of the finest cooling solutions and we have been particularly enamoured with their silent range of products- such as the HD5550 Ultimate.
