Often overlooked in the eternal arms race for the biggest, baddest, most powerful video card on the market; ATI has also been putting out scaled-down versions of their 4000-series GPUs that are intended for the budget conscious gamer. Today we'll be looking at the HD 4830, a smaller sibling to ATI's powerful HD4870. Find out whether this little brother is a mighty mite, or just falls short.

The Sapphire Radeon HD 4770 introduces the 40nm RV740 GPU paired to 512MB of DDR5 video frame buffer memory, and a double-height cooler allows the 100277L model video card to operate at 750MHz. As of May 2009, the Sapphire HD4770 sells for as low as $99, which allows gamers to create a very affordable CrossFireX array using this mainstream graphics accelerator. Benchmark Reviews compares two Sapphire Radeon HD4770's assembled into a CrossFireX set against a large collection of high-performance GPU's for the tests in this article.

The Radeon HD 4670 is the mid-range offering from ATI, with lower performance than the Radeon HD 4770 & 4800 series but more performance than the Radeon HD 4300 and 4500 series. With so many new cards out there, the Radeon HD 4670 fits in nicely to the sub $75 market. Let's see how well it performs against its main competitor from the NVIDIA camp, the GeForce 9600GSO 384MB.

I was a little noncommittal in recommending the 4670 and I suspect that I’m pretty much in the same boat with regards to the 4650. On the one hand, these are inexpensive cards with impressive performance for the price, but on the other hand, for very little extra, much more capable cards can be had. But let’s say, for example, you had sixty bucks and only wanted to play WoW or the Orange Box. Will this card do it?

Sometimes a video card needs to be just that. A card for video. Many high-end workstation motherboards don’t have integrated video, but what good is a computer without a display? The Intel i7 is just the perfect example. A lot of people have the need for quad cores of number-crunching power, but they’re not gamers and, appropriately, have no desire to own a beautiful set of GTX 50 millions. (But you’ll get there, we’ll see to that.)

When we originally published our 7970 content on January 9th 2011 it wasn't possible to run Quad CrossFire with the 7970 and MSI's new X79 Big Bang XPower 2 motherboard. The configuration simply wasn't enabled. That changed overnight with a new BIOS from MSI and new driver from AMD (dated 5th January) which allowed us to test 4x7970 in CrossFire.

Purchasing a video card can be very confusing. Looking at the different model lines and features across multiple manufacturers boasting over clocked memory, or specialty cooling can be enough to make your head spin. Focusing on AMD there are two series that are Direct x 11 compatible the 5000 and 6000 series GPU's. Released in 2010 the 6000 series cards are the second generation DX 11 GPU's and offer AMD PowerTune technology making the cards more energy efficient with lower operating temperatures. Today we have the Sapphire Vapor-X HD6850, here is what Sapphire has to say:

Today we have another 5770 on our test bench and while it uses an enhanced cooler that is not the cards main feature, Sapphires 5770 FleX Edition offers a refined Eyefinity experience. Read on to find out what they have changed and how it offers a significant improvement over other Radeon cards
