The GTX 480 is late. The GTX 480 is hot. Both of these facts have now been established by both ourselves and a gazillion other review sites. We will therefore not dwell upon these factors in this review of the first Fermi card from Zotac to enter the ITShootout.com labs. Since XFX’s partial defection to ATi last year, Zotac has become an increasingly important NVIDIA release partner here in the UK. You’ll probably be familiar with the brand by now if you like to keep abreast of developments in IT.

Aufgrund einiger E-Mail-Anfragen bezüglich des Unlocking der GeForce GTX 465 haben wir der Point of View Karte noch mal genauer unter die Haube geschaut.

If you haven't heard already, the 257.15 Beta ForceWare driver set from NVIDIA accidently had the ability for ATI users to again use an NVIDIA card as a second to do PhysX. The whole ordeal created a bit of drama around the web; as soon as it was discovered by NVIDIA they yanked the driver and put another one up that disabled the ability.

Today we shall review a couple of GeForce GTX 480 graphics cards from Gigabyte and Leadtek. Actually these two cards copy the reference product, they just come with custom stickers, bundles and boxes.

The Sapphire HD5550 Ultimate Edition we are looking at today is a passively cooled solution and is modestly priced at around £70 inc vat in the UK. Could this be the perfect, cool running, low power HTPC card with DX11 support?

NVIDIA's GF100 graphic processor may be late to the game but the wait may have been worthwhile. Complete with 448 CUDA cores and a 320-bit GDDR5 memory sub-system, the GTX 470 packs quite the punch to do battle with AMD's HD 5870. Click through to see how the GTX 470 handles the competition along with how well it scales through overclocking.

Today we get the chance to analyse a product with some jaw dropping specifications, the MSI R5870 Lightning. This card has a custom PCB design and incorporates the worlds first 15 phase PWM design to offer higher levels of overclocking and stability. This is why they cranked it to 900mhz on the core (+50mhz on reference design) and 1200mhz on the memory (4.8GBps effective).

On the ATI based side we have Sapphire's 5970 Toxic 4GB and the Asus Matrix 5870 Platinum. From NVIDIA partners we have Zotac GTX 480's, Gigabyte and Palit GTX 470's and Gainward GTX 465s which allow us to compare single GPU and SLI based setups. We will be covering real world gameplay, PhysX, 3D Vision, GPU computing, High Definition / 3D media playback and power/noise readings in this review to establish which products are worth purchasing.

Today we have a couple of customized solutions based on the Radeon HD 5870 GPU. Both have proprietary coolers, and Gigabyte's card also has an original PCB. Besides, both graphics cards are factory-overclocked.
