When I had the chance to check out the R9 270X Toxic from Sapphire at its launch I was completely blown away at both its performance and styling. Sapphire had obviously put a lot of time and effort reinventing their image, designs, and really stepped it up the performance. When given the chance to check out the R9 280X Toxic, I didn’t even have to think about it. I couldn’t wait to see if Sapphire could do the same with the R9 280X that impressed me so much with the R9 270X. Today is the day, lets dig in and see what it’s all about.

The launch day coverage on AMD R7/R9 earlier this week may have been tied into mainly boring reference samples, but the really good products are being showcased today. This review focuses on something rather special – the new ultra high end Sapphire R9 280X Toxic Edition which features a triple fan cooler, out of the box overclocked speeds and the highest build quality standards on the market. With a UK asking price of £269.99 inc vat – should this be the card to get for a new high end system upgrade?

Today AMD release the first of their new graphics series and Kitguru is on hand to cover the R7 260X, R9 270X and R9 280X. This review focuses on a partner board, the Sapphire R9 280X Vapor X which features enhanced clock speeds and a custom cooling solution. Is this the card you need to shortlist for a new upgrade?

When the AMD R9 280X launched the first R9 280X we tested was Sapphire’s Vapor-X model. In our review we noted that the while the performance was good and the temperatures were reasonable, the acoustic performance was far from impressive. Here we are 6 months later and Sapphire have revised their R9-280X Vapor-X to include their renowned Tri-X triple fan cooling solution which boasts better cooling performance and quieter operation as well as fantastic aesthetics. We aren’t 100% sure if the old model is going to be discontinued or not, because it is certainly confusing having two R9 280X Vapor-X models in our opinion so discontinuing the older model would make sense. There are some key differences between the old and new models though, such as the new model has a faster GPU core clock speed, a triple fan cooler, is a lot bigger, is more expensive and, strangely, has a lower memory clock speed. Sapphire’s R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-X sits just below the Toxic model (which we reviewed here) as it has (almost) the same cooling solution but isn’t overclocked as high, hasn’t been speed binned to the same extent and doesn’t have a backplate. Sapphire’s new R9 280X Vapor-X Tri-X currently fetches around $359 meaning it is directly priced up against high performance GTX 770s like EVGA’s SuperClocked ACX GTX 770 and most of the 4GB GTX 770s which cost on average about $30-50 more than the 2GB variants. Does Sapphire’s Tri-X cooler give the R9 280X Vapor-X a new lease of life? Let’s find out!

In November AMD released their reference R9 290 and while we were impressed with the frame rate performance we certainly didn’t find it fun dealing with the noisy, ill performing reference cooler. It has been some time coming, but today we look at the first custom cooled, overclocked card from partner Sapphire. It features their tasty Tri X cooler.
Is this the card you need in your new system build as we head into 2014?

Today we take the Sapphire R9 290 Vapor-X OC and put it head to head with the GeForce GTX 780 at 1080p and 4K in titles including Wolfenstein The New Order, Battlefield 4, F1 2013 and Crysis 3.

2015 has started with a whimper, more than a bang. AMD have yet to release new architecture so it falls on their partners to create enticing, competitive and effective solutions. Sapphire have been leading the way for some time now, and their latest 8GB card has been launched to supplement the more expensive Vapor X model. This new Tri-X card is equipped with 8GB of GDDR5, ships with a custom cooler and is overclocked. At £349.99 is also £70 cheaper than the Vapor X model (£419.99) – surely a more realistic asking price in today’s market.

AMD fans have been waiting on this for a long time, the eagerly awaited Sapphire custom version of AMD’s R9 290X, featuring their cutting edge Tri-X cooling system. Sapphire have not only adopted their impressive three fan cooler, but they have tweaked the core and memory speeds a little, offering higher ‘out of the box’ performance. Is this the fastest, most powerful (single GPU) AMD video card that money can buy?

The Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X OC is one of the most recent AMD Radeon R9 290X video cards to come to market. The Radeon R9 290X became the flagship single-GPU card for AMD nearly 8 months ago (released in October 2013) and it has been a popular card for both gamers and Litecoin miners. While the Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X OC was arguably late to market, it might very well be one of the best Radeon R9 290X video cards due to the custom Vapor-X/Tri-X GPU cooler, 10-phase power design and one of the highest factory overclocks that we have seen on any Radeon R9 290X 4GB graphics cards...
