Last week we saw the release of NVIDIA's latest graphics range - namely the 700 series and its top model, the GTX 780. In many respects the GTX 780 brings a whole new level of performance to a greater audience and as I showed, there is only a small difference between the 780 and Titan on a single screen.
Working through the new 700 series line-up, NVIDIA are now lifting the lid on their next card, the GTX 770. Like the GTX 780, the GTX 770 has had many rumours surrounding its release and like the 780, these are all related to specifications, performance and most of all the GK104 core and a GTX 680. Like the GTX 780 I first of all want to put one of these rumours to rest and state the reason why. The one that I am referring to is the speculation that GTX680 owners would be able to turn their card into a GTX 770 through a BIOS update. Simply put this CANNOT be done. Whilst both cards share the same GK104 GPU core, there are a number of factors that lead to this impossibility. Like the 780 to Titan comparison, the GTX 770 has a slightly different revision of the GK104 core with varying number s of CUDA cores and texture units, however the most significant factor for the inability to 'convert' the GTX680 lies with the on-board memory.
One of NVIDIA's major shouting points with the GTX770 is the inclusion of memory that runs at a whopping 7Gbps at stock, these are no overclocked ICs either, they are entirely new, so unless you have the ability to unsolder and resolder the ICs on to a GTX 680 as well as change the PCB layout slightly, there is no possibility of changing your card from one to the other.

The winter months can be depressing, with saturating rain and icy snow pervading dark evenings, so why not spend some money on a new graphics card for yourself, tuck up tight in bed and game on a big high definition television set? Club3D might have the answer in the shape of their HD7970 RoyalAce graphics card, featuring enhanced clock speeds, lower noise emissions and proprietary cooling system.

Nvidia recently released their GTX670 series of graphics cards and today we are looking at the latest high end version from partner Asus. The Asus Geforce GTX670 Direct CU II TOP which is supplied with a dual fan metal cooler and pre-overclocked settings.

Sapphire have a well earned reputation as one of AMD’s finest partners. Their Vapor X and Toxic Edition cards command a small price premium while offering significant advantages in all key areas. Today we are looking at the as yet unreleased HD6870 Toxic Edition with custom Vapor-X cooler and ‘out of the box’ clock enhancements.

Gainward’s Phantom series of graphics are famous the industry over for their unique design. While everyone adds their cooling fans to the outside of the cooler, Gainward do it differently and hide them inside the cooling solution. This fresh take on cooling graphics cards gives not only a very unique aesthetic but also a very quiet solution. When we looked at the Gainward GTX 770 Phantom about two months ago it walked away with our top award – the Editor’s Choice award due to its great performance, quiet cooling and sleek aesthetics. Today we will be hoping that Gainward’s GTX 760 Phantom can do the same and with it using the “sweet spot” GPU of the GTX 700 series, the GTX 760, we are hoping for a card that is not only great on the performance, but also friendlier on the wallet than other Nvidia GPUs such as the GTX 770 and GTX 780.
Out of the box the the Phantom GTX 760 from Gainward has a clock speed of 1072MHz base and 1137MHz boost up from Nvidia reference speeds of 980MHz base and 1085MHz boost. The memory is slightly overclocked to 6200MHz, that’s compared to the reference 6008MHz. This means about a 9% overclock on the GPU in addition to a tiny 1% on the memory. That said we can expect Gainward’s implementation of the GTX 760 to be about 10% faster than a reference GTX 760 if the overclock is anything to go by.
