Last month AMD introduced the Radeon HD 7000 series (Southern Islands) of graphics cards. These new cards are based on the 28nm manufacturing process and use a new core architecture called Graphics Core Next (GCN). Many assumed that AMD would be doing a top-to-bottom launch for the AMD Radeon HD 7000 product line, but that is not the case. AMD decided skip over Pitcairn, the Radeon HD 7800 series, and introduce Cape Verde along with the Radeon HD 7700 series.

We already liked the MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC when we tested it as part of our GeForce GTX 760 round-up. It had the right combination of price, performance and low noise levels. The slightly more expensive Hawk made an even better impression. The Hawk is just as quiet, slightly faster and more importantly, it has great overclocking potential, and the triple voltage and the measuring points are great features for overclockers.

Not too long ago we heard the announcement that AMD were to bring out a new 7000 series card that would fill in a gap in their product line-up to take on NVIDIA's 650Ti GPU. This card is of course the 7790 and goes by the code name "Bonaire". Like we saw way back when the 6790 was released, the 7790 fills the void between the entry level 7770 and the midrange 7850 which is a slightly larger gap than some may think in terms of performance.

Not that long ago Club3D made a very bold and striking decision to exclusively work with AMD graphics processing units only, leaving Nvidia on the sidelines. Since then we have seen a flurry of activity from Club3D to produce a vast range of SKUs of HD 7000 series card to cater for every price point for every AMD GPU, notably with the release of their brand new ’13 series.
Today we are looking at one of their upper-range HD 7790 graphics cards, or more specifically the HD 7790 royalKing from their Poker Series. Like the majority of Club3D graphics cards the HD 7790 royalKing we have here today uses their CoolStream cooling solution to keep things running cool and quiet without breaking the bank. The Club 3D HD 7790 royalKing comes with factory overclocks out of the box, on the GPU only, which is overclocked 7.5% to 1075MHz while the memory runs at a stock speed of 6GHz. Other than that the unit is kind-of normal although the design in my opinion is one of the nicest as the unit uses a black PCB, black cooling shroud and is very compact which is ideal for such a mid-range GPU.

Today TechwareLabs is taking a look at the MSI Radeon R9 280 OC. The Twin Frozr is known to be one of the best coolers available and with a factory overclock in the mix as well, this card shows some promise. Read on to see how it stacks up.

What's really cool is that today we're not just looking at a reference designed card from one of the AMD partners, instead we're looking at a card that not only carries an out of the box overclock, but also carries with it a new cooling solution.
The Black Edition naming in the new XFX HD 7970 Black Edition Double Dissipation isn't anything new to us, the new Double Dissipation tag is, though, and that refers to the cooling solution they're using today.

Benchmark Reviews is no stranger to the Radeon HD 4870 and today we add one more to the ranks: the ASUS EAH4870 Dark Knight Top. This 'DK TOP' model comes equipped with ASUS' famed Dark Knight cooler and claims of a 9% performance lead over stock 4870's thanks to an impressive factory overclock. In today's review, we'll put this claim to the test and find out what kind of performance the EAH4870 DK Top brings to the table.

Upon speaking to Brian Burke (nVidia’s PR spinner), we was told that it’s not their fault that the Asus/AMD competitor came with that particular CPU, as that is all that is available to the consumer. The W90 used to have the 9600 CPU, but is now deemed obselete which is common knowledge Burke explains. All W90’s now include the 9000 CPU. nVidia’s fault? I think not.

It's been a while since we've looked at an ASUS video card, and we get stuck back into it today with the R9 270X DirectCU II TOP 3GB.
