A couple of weeks ago AMD launched their new R9 and R7 series cards which replace the 7000 series in the market. The models released up to this point have primarily been tweaked versions of existing GPUs however today we get to see something new from AMD, their R9 290X which is based on the Hawaii chip, priced at $549/£449 and takes on the Geforce GTX 780. Today we will be taking a look at the R9 290X in games such as Battlefield 3, F1 2013 and Total War: Rome 2 to establish whether it can take on the GTX 780 and win.

What happens when you take an AMD Radeon R9 290X video card and disable four compute units, lower the core clock speed just a smidge and slash the price by $150 dollars? You end up with the lower cost AMD Radeon R9 290 graphics card. The new Radeon R9 290 features same exact Hawaii GPU that is found on the Radeon R9 290X and supports all the new stuff like AMD TrueAudio, Mantle, DirectX 11 and OpenGL 4.3. Read on to see how it performs!

When we first told you about the NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan video card back in February 2013, we noted that it was powered by NVIDIA’s GK110 ‘Kepler’ GPU and that one of the Streaming Multiprocessors (SMX unit) was disabled. NVIDIA followed up the launch of the GeForce GTX Titan 6GB with the more affordable GeForce GTX 780 3GB that had two more SMX units disabled at the end of May 2013. Those two cards were all that NVIDIA needed to dominate the high-end desktop graphics card market for nearly a year. Many gamers and enthusiasts forgot that a fully enabled Kepler GK110 GPU even existed. NVIDIA had certainly not forgotten, they just didn’t mention it. NVIDIA was keeping this trump card close to their chest and waiting for the right time to unleash the beast.
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti has all the SMX units on the GK110 GPU enabled and you have to see how it performs!

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has been keeping us extremely busy launching new graphics cards and this week is no different. AMD announced the Radeon R9 270 graphics card this morning at the $179.99 price point. This is the sixth video card that AMD has added to the Radeon R7 and R9 series of video cards since October! This 'new' card is interesting as it reduces the entry price into the high-end R9 series down to the $179 price point and uses the same exact Pitcarin GPU found on the AMD Radeon R9 270X!

It’s no secret that PC gamers who seek realistic graphics prefer their desktop platform over the 1080p-limited console counterparts. Discrete graphics cards, the hardware added onto motherboards built for high performance, support enthusiast video resolutions as large as 2560×1600. More pixels means more power needed to produce them, so I decided to test some of the most recent graphics cards from NVIDIA and AMD on our massive 30″ monitor. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests frame rate performance for the AMD Radeon R9 290X and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti at their maximum supported resolution.

"Lately we have been taking a look at a lot of Radeon R9 280X graphics cards. These are based on the Tahiti GPU that was also found in AMD’s Radeon HD 7900 series cards. For those not looking to spend as much money the next step down in AMD’s latest graphics cards is the R9 270X/270 series. These cards are based off the Pitcairn GPU and still offer a very good price / performance ratio. Today we are looking at MSI’s Radeon R9 270 Gaming graphics card. This card will feature a factory overclock and MSI’s own Twin Frozr IV cooling solution. Is this the best graphics card for under $200? We are going to find out!

The R7 240 iCooler Boost Clock 2GB video card from HIS features the lowest performance from the bunch and comes with the stock clocks. Despite the fact that the product is quite overclockable, we weren’t able to reach the performance of the regular R7 250.
