In February I reviewed several HD7750 and HD7770 graphics cards and was ultimately left with mixed feelings. I appreciated the commendable power consumption and modest heat output, but I felt that it was a sideways step for AMD. They seemed more focused on announcing that they had released the first graphics card at a ’1 GHZ clock speed’ while failing to highlight that they had stripped out a substantial amount of stream processors.

Today we are looking at the latest card from Gigabyte, the HD7870 Overclock Edition which is supplied with a custom cooler, comprising not two, but three fans. This is the first custom cooled HD7870 we have looked at since the launch of the reference card on March 5th. Gigabyte claim the card is almost silent thanks to a proprietary ‘anti turbulence’ fan design.

Nvidia claims that the GTX 680 is the fastest and most efficient GPU ever built and evidence of this can be seen in almost every aspect of the video card. In terms of efficiency we can contrast the older GTX 580 and can see a 50w drop in TDP giving the GTX 680 a clear advantage in power consumption. Combine that with the performance enhancements of the Kepler core and you have a GPU we can talk about.

We should start to see that all change over the coming months, not only because we have the new GTX 680, but we'll see NVIDIA fill out the GTX 600 series line over the next few months while we then see their partners offer us fancy new variants of the model. Next up we'll see the GTX 670 in May of course followed by the GTX 660, 650 and low-end models.

NVIDIA has done a remarkable job with the GeForce GTX 670 and it is the card to buy right now. The performance is close to that of a GeForce GTX 680 and the price tag is $100 lower, so there really isn't much bad to say about the card. The performance, power usage, appearance and overclocking abilities are all in order. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 is a great graphics card that is going to bring a world of hurt to AMD...

Of the many platforms available for gamers to enjoy video games, there's no question that the highest quality graphics come from PC. While game developers might not consider PC gaming as lucrative as entertainment consoles, companies like NVIDIA use desktop graphics to set the benchmark for smaller more compact designs that make it into notebooks, tablets, and smartphone devices. NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture is an example of this, delivering unprecedented performance while operating cooler and consuming far less power than previous flagship discrete graphics cards. In this article Benchmark Reviews tests the NVIDIA GeForce GTX680 video card equipped with a 28nm GK104 Kepler GPU, and compares it against the best DirectX 11 video cards available. Featuring their new NVIDIA GPU Boost technology, the GeForce GTX 680 video card can dynamically adjust power and clock speeds based on real-time application demands.
