Today, though, we get to move away from the reference card design and see what's going on with our first retail HD 7870 in the form of the PowerColor PCS+ HD 7870 GHz OC Edition 2GB. We haven't seen much from PowerColor in the form of the PCS+ series, but it's always one that has taken my eye.
What's making these new cooling solutions so much more attractive as well is the fact that the new 28nm GPU on the HD 7000 series runs so cool that the latest coolers are seeing some awesome performance on the new models. We've got our fingers crossed that the PCS+ cooler that PowerColor has opted for today follows the trend of strong cooling.

Very few manufacturers can compete with Sapphire when it comes to creating a flagship video card. Over the last year they have consistently released some of the finest graphics cards to market. Today we are looking at their latest high end HD7970 Overclock Edition which is supplied with twin bios overclock configurations and proprietary twin fan cooling solution.

Today we have a Sapphire 7970 OverClock Edition card on our test bench and will be putting it through a selection of real world gaming tests, including Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 to find what Sapphire can do with their own design.

Today we have the most extreme 7970 we have received yet, the MSI Radeon 7970 Lightning. On paper MSI have taken this GPU to a whole new level with extra PCB's, voltage read points, power phases and top of the line components so we are going to do the same. Rather than bench the card at its impressive factory overclock we are taking it to the limit, its maximum stable overclock to see how it compares to the reference design as well as an overclocked, 3GB GTX 580.

Benchmark Reviews has reviewed the XFX versions of AMD's new Tahiti-based Radeon 7970 and 7950 video cards. They provided ground-breaking single-GPU performance (both were faster overall than the NVIDIA GTX 580), but at very high prices. While these cards do a good job of supporting the very high end video card market, many more users will gravitate towards less expensive options. The Cape Verde GPUs represent the low end of AMD's new Graphics Core Next GPU line and today we have the XFX R7770 Black Super Overclocked Edition card to test.

In the last month AMD’s partners have been unveiling their custom cooled graphics cards and we have already reviewed the latest Dual X HD7970 Overclock Edition from Sapphire and the HD7970 X Edition from VTX3D. Today we are looking at MSI’s flagship R7970 Lightning with custom twin fan cooler and proprietary PCB design.

Today we are looking at the latest card from Gigabyte, the HD7870 Overclock Edition which is supplied with a custom cooler, comprising not two, but three fans. This is the first custom cooled HD7870 we have looked at since the launch of the reference card on March 5th. Gigabyte claim the card is almost silent thanks to a proprietary ‘anti turbulence’ fan design.

While Hong Kong based Pine Group might not be a familiar name to us, the graphics company it created in 2002 is an all too familiar name in graphics card shoot-outs around the world. XFX is a serious player in a very competitive market. Against a backdrop of a tough economic environment and global political upheaval, XFX has been doing the business. And doing it well. KitGuru is prepared to blame Sales VP, Cy Brown.

Rounding off the 7000 series line-up, can the 7870 offer a fair balance between price and power?

When building a high-performance system you need to ensure that you are using the right components for your application. In the case of gaming and overclocking your choice of memory module can often be crucial in leveling out low framerates and getting the best performance possible especially when paired with the latest Sandy Bridge processor from Intel.
