In this article we will look at Sapphire's 7770 Overclocked model which features a custom design and shall put it up against its direct competition from NVIDIA in the form of a GTX 560. The new Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition, which is being released today, is a mainstream video card based on the latest graphics architecture from AMD, dubbed "Graphics Core Next" or simply "GCN," which supports the new PCI Express 3.0 connection and the latest DirectX version (11.1).
Last month AMD introduced the Radeon HD 7000 series (Southern Islands) of graphics cards. These new cards are based on the 28nm manufacturing process and use a new core architecture called Graphics Core Next (GCN). Many assumed that AMD would be doing a top-to-bottom launch for the AMD Radeon HD 7000 product line, but that is not the case. AMD decided skip over Pitcairn, the Radeon HD 7800 series, and introduce Cape Verde along with the Radeon HD 7700 series.
Today we have the HIS Radeon HD 7750 on our test bench and will be putting it up against the GeForce GTX 550Ti in a selection of the latest games as well as media and GPU computing tasks. Is it the ideal solution for 1680x1080 gamers... or maybe even 1920x1080 users? Time to find out...
